I’m so sorry! It’s an honest mistake. I will have a handful of invites going out to the UK for my Dad’s family and I calculated 4 stamps per invite! Two for the invite and two for the RSVP card. I will double check mine now before sending them out.

I have been charged before as the recipient for not enough postage. Often when friends have sent me square envelope card and did not add the extra postage. I am not sure what they will do in Canada. Hopefully most people if charged will just assume that you didn’t know and they won’t mind parting with some change. If it seems like the invites will be returned to you for additional postage, this might cause some timing issues so you might want to just contact these people by phone, explain the situation assure them they are invited and ask if they can make it.

@HoneysHoney:  Good point on the return postage! Thank you for pointing that out as I had not thought of that for my UK invites. I doubt my close family members there would mind paying, but I might just have them RSVP by phone. I will have to think about that one.

@HoneysHoney:  Yeah Canadian postage really sucks. We envy your system…

I wouldn’t worry too much about it, if you’re concerned with the RSVPs then call people and let them know “You’re invited the invite should be on the way, when it arrives, we realized that the postage is US and wont work for the return envelope! You can update the postage or simply rsvp via phone/email/whatever you’re letting them use”

And since it’s his family, make him or his mother do it 😛

I think it is more likely, that the USPS will bounce them back to you but even that could take a couple of weeks.

How many invites are we talking about? Any way to get some basic extra invites printed up fairly cheaply so you can get them out? Or call/e-mail these people to let them know what’s going on?

As for the RSVP cards, I also had to send a bunch of invitations to Canada so I just enclosed a separate special note in those that apologized for the lack of postage and encouraged them to RSVP by email, phone, stuffing multiple cards into one envelope, etc. They all thought it was funny and pretty much RSVP’d by email.

@HoneysHoney:  Bah I’m jealous! I sent with the right postage to Montreal from Toronto and they never even got it!! *grumbles about American postage being better* 😛

But I am glad it worked out for you! 🙂
