I think you can use a regular scale but it might be off.  If it fits in a priority mail flat rate box, that’s probably the best way to go!

USPS has these boxes now, “if it fits, it ships” for about $7. They have bigger ones, that of course cost more. I’d take the item to the post office for a quick box measure.
