Hey guys! I’m cooking pot roast tomorrow for some friends, and I def. want potatoes involved with it. I know you can do the traditional potatoes, carrots, water, etc. but was wondering if anyone had any OUT OF THIS WORLD recipe’s??
And what do you normally make for sides with pot roast? Thanks ladies!!!

When I make crockpot pot roast I always add a package of that onion soup mix (Lipton brand I think) and it really helps add some flavor.
Other than that, the roast, carrots, potatos, water, and some salt and pepper and you should be all set.

Yum, the onion mix would probably add great flavor! Thanks for the tip! What sides do you usually make with it?? I was thinking mashed potatoes but is there anything else?

I second the Lipton onion soup mix! It adds great flavor! We use that with pork loin in the crockpot too – mix a packet with a little water, dump in, and come home to a yummy dinner!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the 3-packet pot roast recipe. It’s 1 packet of each of the following: brown gravy, italian dressing mix, ranch dressing mix. Mix them together in a bowl and pour over the roast and veggies (potatoes, carrots, celery, onion). The add a little beef broth. It will look weird because the spices are still dry on top, but it turns out just fine.
Then I always make a gravy with the juice and it’s delish! Serve with salad and crusty bread, NOM!

I’d serve it with a side salad and dinner rolls, but that’s about it.

Onion soup mix….=]
We usually have that with salad. We try not to do carbs in the evening
Colcannon is a nice alternative to mashed potatoes. It doesn’t sound crazy exciting but it’s a step up from regular mashed potatoes

I agree with the “crusty” bread idea. I don’t know. Maybe we’re weird but we like crunchy garlic bread with our roast……. Or I’d at least have some bread with butter or something…
I usually put some seasoning on it. Not just veggies and water. I’d add some spices or mixes like stated above.

I know it SOUNDS weird, but I love (and so does my picky eater FI) a Pepsi pot roast. You put the roast in the crockpot, cover it with one can of (undiluted) cream of mushroom soup, then one packet of dry onion soup mix on top of the mushroom soup, then pour a can and a half of pepsi over everything (instead of water). The Pepsi both tenderizes the meat and adds just a touch of sweetness. You can add potatoes and carrots in the crockpot as well…or not. I usually cook it on low starting the night before.

Thank you ladies! & ejs…I’m looking into that recipe now you gave me for the alternative to mashed potatoes! Thank you girl!
Would it be okay, you think, to serve mashed potatoes along with a side salad and bread with it? Or is that too much? Because I am going to have red potatoes with the roast.
