Hello all! I’m going to a really cool event tomorrow with some friends – a very informal concert reading/performance of a musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie, (which means there’ll be a full orchestra for the music, and actors reading lines and singing all the songs, but no costumes, staging, real rehearsals, or anything like that) with a potluck during intermission. A few of my friends are playing in the orchestra, and two will be in the audience with me, attending the performance. The two in the audience, a married couple, are visiting from out of state for the week, and I want to bring 2 dishes to the potluck, to cover me and them. They’re going out tonight to romp around Greenwich Village, and I’m so exhausted from my work week that I’m staying in to cook the dishes (I’m fine with that, since I love cooking, and we’re all going to a show on Broadway this afternoon, so it’s not like my whole day is at home!), and the show is tomorrow at noon.
Anyway, I need suggestions for the potluck! I’d prefer dishes that taste good at any temperature, because they probably won’t hold their heat through travel and Act I, but may be lukewarm. They also need to travel easily – we’ll be taking the subway from Harlem to NYU. But – this is also my first NYC potluck, and I’d like to bring something interesting… I’m trying to get creative with my dishes. If possible (I know this is a long list of qualifications!!), I’m trying to keep it to relatively cheap ingredients. I could maybe splurge on one special item per dish, but other than that, I’m trying to stick to pretty basic ingredients.
Suggestions?? What do you take to potlucks? What’s your signature dish to bring? Thanks!!
