Isn't there an LA flower market? What about a farmer's market?
Cute idea! Yeah, I would try Home Depot, Lowe's, OSH, or Target (those with nurseries).
The LA flower mart has several orchid dealers. The prices are really good too!
Costco has tons of them when they are in season. You can probably find the right colored ones there because they will have so many for you to pick through.
If you like the orchids at Trader Joe's or CostCo, you can actually have them order that amount you need and they will have it for you at one store to pick up.
LA Flower mart, there are more than a few companies that specialize in orchids, and with the amount you will be buying I'm sure you can get them at a better price. Also, they have so many colors and shapes, when I went last I was amazed, I love orchids so I just looked around for fun for a while.
I just posted about this in the LA Flower mart thread. I went down there a couple of months ago to see how feasible DIY flowers would be and I was AMAZED! I had never thought of orchids for my wedding but I'll probably pick up at least a couple from the guys at this store I found just outside the flower mart. I think it was at San Pedro and near Cecelia but I can't be sure. I did write down their website www.orchidsfarm.com. They just had some really breath taking orchids in there I was so impressed. They were very stricking. The notes I took down were that they were very tall and had about 4-5 large blooms on them for about $13-14. I was there at about 10am and I know the selction is much bigger the earlier you get there so i'd say it might be worth a trip. If you're interested in any of my other research from the flower mart pm me I'd be happy to share. They are in plastic containers so you'd have to find your own pots or you could always just drape some fabric around them which would look really pretty too. I'm a former event planner and this was something we'd do in a pinch if we had a snafu with things not matching or whatever it's really easy and looks good (and pretty darn cheap).
we had potted orchids for our 2nd reception (chinese banquet), and our guests loved them! easy for them to bring home and display.
This might be too far from you, but there is an orchid nursery right off the 5 in Northern San Diego county.

I am looking for potted orchids for my centerpieces. I like the ones they have at Trader Joes but I would need about 30 of them and don't want to drive all over LA the week of my wedding to collect them all and make sure they are all the right color . Do you know of any online or local retailers at will sell them?
Thanks!
