Abner! He was a stray. He ended up in a foster home and got adopted before I nabbed him,but then got returned because he has separation anxiety. Now he’s all mine.

Only one of mine is a “pound puppy.”

I had been begging my parents for months to take me to the humane society. I promised them that I would not beg for a dog, I just wanted to look at them.

So we get there, and I find this pitiful, sad, looking furry dog. I honestly thought he was senior dog, thats how pitiful he looked. He was covered in pee and poop, had a raging ear infection, had mange. Come to find out he was only 3 months old. So of course I started begging for him. The next day my parents were acting really weird and told me to get my dog ready to go for a car ride. They ended up taking me there to get him.

This is the first picture I took of him.

Here’s Dozer, my little rescue. He’s a mutt and everyone sees different things in him, but most agree he’s probably primarily corgi and dachshund with other things in there. My best guess is corgi/doxie/jack russel/ maybe pit. He’s about 2 and still full of energy and always looks really happy.

These are my babies, Lincoln & Sophie.  Both were brought to the shelter as puppies, and both were adopted at around 9 weeks.  Lincoln is 2 y/o, and was found in a box with his littermates.  Sophie is 5 y/o and was surrendered to the shelter with her litter by the owners of the adult dogs. Everyone tells me they look so much alike, but I got Sophie from a shelter in FL and Lincoln from a shelter in CO.  FI and I joke that we need to find a third, very small dog with their same coloring.  I can’t imagine life without them!

I have a shelter mutt!  I saw him at a city shelter in Downey, CA (high kill, not great) and he was actually discounted because he was near his date (most dogs make it 14 days, he was at 10 days).  He came with his shots, neutered, microchipped, and a free vet visit all for $37, and it’s the best money I’ve ever spent.  He was super skinny when I first got him (could feel his spine/hips/skull ridge), but he’s actually doubled in weight since he’s been with me lol.

We adopted our dog a couple of years ago.  She was 2 months old at the time, and was turned into the shelter with a litter of 10 puppies.  Our guess is that someone ended up with “surprise puppies” and took care of them until they were old enough to be adopted out.  She was in an enclosure with her siblings, and what stuck out to us was that she was completely passed out on the bed in the corner not giving a shit about anything.  There were a lot of people in the enclosure handling the puppies and lots of noise, and some of the puppies looked anxious…but not Gabi.  We scooped her up and she just fell asleep in our arms.  She’s still a cuddler too.

Here she is on the day we adopted her:

Here she is all grown up:

Here is my pound puppy, Emma.  We adopted her at eight weeks from a local shelter.  Her cocker spaniel mother was found as a stray on the side of the road and pregnant.  We have no clue what breed her father was.  One of our best guesses is that it is some kind of terrier based off her body and behavior.  She is now eight years old.
