Where/How are you storing your dress leading up until the wedding?? My gown just came in 11 months before the big day and I'm worried it won't stay looking brand new for so long. Any tips? Was it a huge mistake to buy the dress so early? Any way to keep it perfect?? Thanks SOOO much in advance!!!
I bought my dress really early too (we were originally supposed to get married this October, but the wedding had to be postponed until next October instead). It's already been sitting here at my apartment for like 6 months, lol. I was told that you shouldn't keep your dress hanging on a hanger because that'll stretch it out. That's definitely true for my gown because it's really heavy with all the beading. Everything I've read has said it's best to leave it laying flat, wrapped with a white sheet around it, and placed inside a breathable garment bag. That's what I've done for mine and so far so good (I decided to leave the garment bag unzipped a little so my dress can breathe and air out). Just make sure you keep it out of direct sunlight and extreme conditions, and it'll be fine :).
I literally bought my dress a month after we got engaged, (Kleinfelds had an amazing sample sale and presto I found my dress!) trust me I was not looking to buy a dress...it found me. (Note wedding is not till August). Anyways Kappaucf20 is correct. Try not to hang the dress up for very long b/c it will pull and stretch the dress. We all know how heavy these dresses can be and gravity is the Devil! Make sure to use a plain white sheet and leave it in a closet or room were direct sunlight and extreme conditions will not effect it. If you do not have room laying it flat, try taking it off the rack and laying it on a bed every so often to allow it to "breath and relax".
I bought my dress in January for my wedding in October. I hung it up in my closet (by the hanger straps!) and it was fine for the 10+ months. I made sure that the dress had room on either side...and not crammed in with all my other clothes.
I bought my dress before we got engaged. :P I stored it in a cloth garment bag in a spare room closet. I didn't have room to lay it down anywhere, so I just did what GreenTeaGuinness said and aired it out and arranged it once a month. Which really wasn't all that hard since I tried it on every time. :)
