I suffer from Degenerative Disc Disease in my L4, and I was wondering if there’s any pregnant Bee’s that have had the same issue or similar chronic back problems? I do a lot of core exercise, and it helps, but from what I hear being pregnant tends to make the lower back hurt on it’s own. I see my doctor next week and will of course address the issue, I was just curious what others have experienced?

GooteyBootey: I have scoliosis and metal rods running the majority of my spine. I’ve always had chronic pain that I had prescription medication for. Suprisingly, my pain seems to lessen early in pregnancy, which is nice because I can’t take my meds. I think it has to do with some of the hormones promoting muscle relaxation. Not sure how things will be as weight is gained.

GooteyBootey: I am so sorry to hear that you are in pain and experiencing issues. I have siatic nerve issues that I am in PT for. painful but not too horrible yet

I’m sorry you’re going through that. Hopefully all your excercising will help you maintain relatively low levels of pain during your pregnancy. I can totally sympathize and wish I had been more proactive about strengthening my core.
As for me, I had a horseback riding injury about 8 years ago that left me with scar tissue in my lower back. I also have hypermobility in my joints that has caused bursitis in both of my hips. I didn’t notice much pain in the early part of my pregnancy, but now at 17 weeks, I’m having really bad pain in my hips and in my lower back. The part I’m finding the most difficult is sleep. My hips ache if I sleep on my side, and if I sleep elevated on my back, I wake with lower back pain. I’m dreading the potential pain the next 23 weeks might bring! I’m starting to do a weekly massage and chiropracter to hopefully mitigate the pain.

I have spondylolisthesis at my L5 (which includes a bulged disc and pretty consistent sciatic pain) and I’m 9 weeks pregnant. Between weeks 3 and 7, my pain went from a typical day at a 4 to a daily minimum of 7. Since then it has lessened and is back around a 4.

I have a herniated disc at L3/4 and L4/5. I’m early in my pregnancy (12w2d) but I know it’ll get worse :/
