- Wedding: June 2014 - Italiano's Humble
my grandparents had their 30th anniversary last year. but this year, july, my grandpa is taking gma back to Galveston for a second honeymoon. I thought throwing a renewal to go with it, would be awesome. I haven’t tt my gma yet, but my grandpa is excited and thinks she’d really like it. I know both their tastes, and their fave colors. this would happen at their house, or my hometown community building.
how do I do this ladies? my cousin can make their cake, I’m gonna ask their preference on a preacher or Justice of the Peace. there’s not many of us left, so diy invites and everything is totally doable. but, how does it work versus an actual wedding?
also, where can I get a commemorative certificate? google isn’t helping much with this, and etsy is out of budget.

I do think this is a really lovely idea. I’m sure whatever you do they’ll be thrilled. I can’t help much but my grandparents celebrated their 60th a few years ago, and my parents held a party that I can tell you about.
We went with the “traditional” colours for a diamond wedding which is white and lilac and I handmade the invites (about 40). My cousin thought it was a wedding invite, then of course she read it! The decor was just napkins, table cloths and a few balloons.
We ordered a buttonhole for my granddad and a corsage for my grandma and we booked a car from the year they were married to pick them up and take them to my parents home (the car was a bit of a disaster, it never turned up, but that’s beside the point).
My mum and aunt prepared a “posh” cold buffet. And we had a cake made professionally. We also lucked out on the weather 🙂
The thing that my grandparents loved the most though was that we got all the family and some of their old friends together. It was done as a semi surprise, they knew immediate family would be coming but not their nieces and nephews and people from a good distance away.
We bought a coin instead of a certificate, we had a montage made of them and all their direct relatives which now sits in their kitchen where they make their morning drinks everyday. Because it was their 60th and we’re in the UK we arranged a telegram from the Queen. They loved showing their friends that!
