Hi ladies! I was wondering if anyone had taken a pregnancy test where there were two lines but one is a lot lighter than the other? I had taken one last Saturday and there was definitely one line, so I assumed I was not pregnant, but then I didn't get my period so I took another one this morning and one line was a lot lighter than the other......I want to be excited because we are trying but I'm not sure if it's true yet! Any suggestions?

I say 2 lines is 2 lines, but maybe you could take a third test just to be sure?  I believe Mrs. DG said on another thread yesteday that digital tests are a little more sensitive, so maybe you can try one of those?  Either way when it will clearly either say pregnant or not pregnant so there's not lines to guess with.

When I read the instructions on mine, it said if it read positive, it was positive, no matter how light.

I would take a digital test just to be sure. We're TTC as well, and I know how it feels to think it might be postiive, get excited, and then have a let down.

    Fingers crossed for you!

From my experience, a light line is still a positive line. All four of my tests had a "light" line appear within seconds and I was definately pregnant. Maybe you can wait one more day and take another test to see? But it sounds like you are pregnant to me. :)

Thanks! I will probably go out and get one that says pregnant or not pregnant:)

A light line is a line. Perhaps you are taking the test on the earlier side (10 days past ovulation?) Mine was so faint, I took a picture of it and my camera picked up on it and there was no denying my eyes/lighting wasn't playing tricks on me. Sometimes going to the doctor's is cheaper than buying a bunch of tests, depending on your plan.

Yes, my most recent pregnancy was like this.  One of the lines was much lighter than the other, but it was definitely visible.  Sounds like congratulations are in order!!!!

Most pregnancy tests WILL read one line lighter than the other. If the line shows up at all in any form, that means the test is positive!!! I'll hold off my congrats until you know for sure, but eeeeek! :)

Hmm... my post didn't show up, but what I said was that if you read the test as negative and then see it turn positive after the 2 minute waiting period, it is most likely an EVAP line.  However, if that faint line shows up during the test time, that's a positive.

I too will save my congratulations, but I'm hopeful for you!

a faint line means your preggers.  I have a pretty funny story about that line that you can read (link removed)

The first test I took was so faint that DH and I both thought our eyes were just playing tricks on us. Two or three days later I took another one that showed up a little darker. Chances are you just detected it pretty early, but I understand not wanting to get your hopes up.

I had the exact things happen to me where one line was much fainter than the other. I am now 9 weeks pregnant. I read on the package that often one line will be fainter than the other but it is still a positive.  The faint line will get darker and darker as your pregnancy progresses and there is more HCG present. Congratulations!

A line is a line. Mine was so faint I was squinting to see it. But it was a line, and I was/am pregnant. But yes, be sure you're not looking after the elapsed time period. It does get much darker then but is not reliable.

So I took one of those digital tests and it said "not pregnant", but I still haven't gotten my period. Now I'm just confused.....I think It's time to make a doctors appointment!

I'm kinda in the same boat.  5 days late and digital test says not pregnant.  Guess it's a waiting game...

I didn't read all of the previous posts so this may already have been said but I think a light line is still a line. My sister had this same issue and she went to a doctor to verify. The doctor said, yes, even if its super light, its still there! And the doctor also said that a lot of women misread pregnancy tests for that very reason.

Different pregnancy tests give positive results at different HcG levels.  In general, digital tests require higher levels of HcG (usually 50 miU) than tests that use lines (often 25 miU).  You can see how sensitive your test is at: http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/hpt.html .  Consumer reports recommend First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test, and you might want to try that one if you need to wait to see your doctor.  I had a light line at first, and it grew darker over the next few days.

So I got my period this morning. My guess is that I was pregnant for a short amount of time and then it didn't take. We'll just keep on trying!

    Amandagrace -

I wish you luck in TTC in the future.  It is quite likely your theory is correct, since half of all pregnancies are chemical pregnancies, which used to end before women even knew they were pregnant.    With early pregnancy testing, chemical pregnancies are discovered.
