im currently 27 weeks pregnant and after a ridiculously stressful and awful holiday season at a certain large chain retailer that has been in the news quite a bit recently, I’m feeling quite burnt out and exhausted. I am currently a lower-level manager there, and I really hate my job. It was convenient for me to transfer my position when I moved to Alaska, so I stayed put probably longer than I should have. The work is hard and thankless and doesn’t pay well, and I don’t feel fulfilled or happy at all.
This job should be a good addition to my resume, I also have other management experience from my undergrad as well as various other retail/customer service positions. I also do have my Bachelors in Health Sciences, major in physiology but admittedly have not used my degree since I graduated in 2010.
My ultimate goal is to be an RN and eventually a nurse practitioner. There are pretty good programs here in Alaska that I want to start up after our baby boy is born, but in the interim I would love to be able to quit my retail job and find something in healthcare! I’m not too worried about benefits/maternity leave at this point, if I have to I will wait until after I’ve had some time with baby to find another job.
Basically I need advice on how to get my foot in the door in healthcare! I did get an EMT certification back in 2010 that has since expired, and have volunteered a bit in a hospital. My degree gives me quite a bit of medical knowledge but not so much clinical knowledge, more of the theory on anatomy and physiology.
I’ve never been great with job searching in general, my resume is decent due to my dad’s expertise but other than that I am clueless!!
any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated! Sorry this is so all over the place haha.
ETA: any advice on general job searching is also welcome, not just healthcare jobs!
