I was just wondering if and of you had similar pregnancies to your mom. I wonder if genetics play any type of factor in how easy/difficult your pregnancy will be. I could google it, but I google enough, so I thought I’d go straight to the source.
My mom never had 1 day of m/s with her 3 pregnancies. And she gained exactly 40 lbs with each of us. Her mom had 5 kids, and also never had m/s.
Thoughts on this? Thanks:)

Not pregnant yet but I’m really hoping my pregnancies aren’t like my mom’s! She had violent M/S all 9 months with each of her pregnancies (3). She was admitted into the hospital for dehydration at least twice with each pregnancy. Yikes!! I’m hoping for some good first trimester sickness just to reassure me but nothing close to what she dealt with!

My pregnancies were all like my mothers, down to the speed of the delivery. The only difference was how much weight I gained with the last one, but she only had two children (she adopted two others), and I gave birth to three.

My mom had pretty bad MS, and while I did have some nausea, I never had any vomiting. She also gained 50+ lbs, so I’m hoping not to follow! Although, she didn’t get any stretch marks…so I wouldn’t mind that!

I’m hoping genetics plays a role! My mom didn’t have morning sickness and didn’t develop any stretch marks and was easily able to lose her baby weight, even after her second pregnancy.
My sister is 13 weeks pregnant and so far she’s having a similar experience to my mom. Fingers crossed for both of us!

This is a great post!
I wonder how I will be..my mom had terrible M/S with both pregnancies. All 9 months..pure vomitting…I really hope I don’t have it =(

So far, no. She seems to have breezed through her pregnancies. I’ve been feeling awful since the beginning… kind of like I got hit by a truck. She gained 45 lbs with me… so far I’ve lost 6, although there’s still plenty of time for weight gain. She also had really long deliveries, so I’m hoping that I’ll have a nice speedy one!

Thanks everyone! I figured it would be all over the board, but I was just wondering if there were any bees at all who did have similar pregnancies – good to know!
My mom had my sister when I was 6. I remember them wheeling her out of L&D and she had a shower cap thingy on her head and her makeup was perfect. She’d been in labor for hours, and had an emergency c-section, but she was rocking her “total face” and looks beautiful in all of the photos with my baby sis. Pregnancy and delivery was pretty breezy for her, and I just have my fingers crossed it’s the same for me! (When I get there!)

Not at all the same! My mom was sick for 2 weeks, but I had more like 8 weeks. She didn’t have heartburn or food aversions, but I do like crazy. She had headaches the whole time, I’ve had far less than before. The only similar thing we have really had so far is round ligament pain.

Yep. Her births were quicker than mine (although I had a pretty easy, fast birthing experience for a first time mom) and she had a couple complications I didn’t have (needing cerclages and having pre-term labors).
As far as morning sickness goes, I found out after I had my daughter that I have a genetic condition called hyperemesis gravidarum; a simple explanation is that it’s like severe morning sickness. Although my mom was never diagnosed, she also suffered from it with every pregnancy. In fact, I suggest anyone who’s mothers had extremely bad morning sickness (e.g. severe vomiting, weight loss, hospital treatment for dehydration or nutrition definiciencies, etc…) to reasearch HG; it is believed to be genetic (current studies are underway to map those genes) and women should be aware of the symptoms and complications that come from this disease.

Totally like my mom’s down to having a child early. My mom did not have any morning sickness with me or my brother. I was born a month early and now so has my son. I also had no morning sickness. I was born a month early and my son was 7 weeks early.

*not pregnant* My mom fainted a lot in the beginning, but had 3-hour labors. I hope I get the quick labor but not the fainting.

@Mrs. Spring: Wow! I’ve never heard of that! Thank you for sharing! That’s very informative! Jeez, I learn so much on here! Thank you!

@thehoneybear: Amen, sister:) I hope I get the no m/s, but maybe not gain 40 lbs:) Maybe a cool 25-30? I’m 5″3, 120s….I can just see the spread if I’m 160s, 5″3. Yowsah!

My moms symptoms were nothing like mine when I was pregnant.
My mom got 0 stretch marks.
I got 500.
My mom never threw up once.
I threw up daily.
My mom craved cantaloupe.
I craved cheese burgers (hence the stretch marks EVERYWHERE!)
