I was asked by my girlfriend last summer to be a bridesmaid in her wedding this August. I accepted, and have been excited ever since. I bought a $250 bridesmaid dress (link http://www.weddingshoppeinc.com/pr/Angelina-Faccenda-20267/36235) and I just found out I’m pregnant! We started trying about a month ago when we got married, and on our honeymoon it must have happened! Didn’t expect it to happen so quickly… now I am going to be 15 weeks along at the time of her wedding! What can I do? I don’t know if I will be showing or have gained weight… I know the dress is a bit bigger, so might be enough room. Any suggestions or ideas or just support from anyone going through a similar thing?? Thanks lovelies!

At 15 weeks, your original dress should be fine, especially since you said it’s a bit big. One of my best friends is currently 16 weeks pregnant with twins, and she started to show at 12 weeks… but she also has two babies in her belly 🙂

I honestly didn’t show until I was about 18 weeks, and I had only gained about 3 pounds at that point.. of course, EVERYONE is different. Do you have a longer torso? That seemed to help me not show as early.
Do you have some room in the boobs? I would be more concerned about it fitting in that area, but again, everyone is so different with how they gain weight and what happens to them.
I think you’ll be ok. Just remember too that you’re not REALLY “eating for two”- the extra calories you need are minimal… be practical in your food choices (ie, healthy- food aversions can make this hard but sometimes you gotta just tell yourself that eating that grilled chicken breast instead of that macaroni and cheese is what’s good for baby and force it down) and you’ll gain healthy baby weight and not “extra” padding. Stay active if you can, too. I’ve been at the gym at least 3 x a week my whole pregnancy (granted, I have had the EASIEST pregnancy in the world and I know a lot of ladies are not so lucky) so if you feel up to it, at least go for a nice long walk or 20 minutes on the elliptical.

Most likely you won’t really be showing, but you will probably have gained some weight. If the dress does truly have room in it, then you should be fine! 🙂

Congrats! That dress looks fairly forgiving so I would think you’ll be just fine, especially if it’s a little big.

@funkymunky85: First of all, congratulations to you and your DH!! That is such wonderful news!! I’m sure even your friend, the bride, will be very happy for you!
I agree with PPs that, at 15 weeks, you probably will be OK with your dress, since you said it’s a little big. Although I have very thin friends who have begun showing as early as two months, that kind of showing is generally in the lower abdominal area, and the full skirt of your bridesmaid’s dress would cover that. Even if your dress is a bit too small, the alterations staff should be able to let it out a bit, if necessary.
@Miss Root: Not to threadjack, but, I did not know you are expecting, too! How wonderful!! Congratulations to you and your Darling Husband as well. I am so glad to hear that you are doing so very well with your pregnancy!!

At 15 weeks, it won’t be anything a few alterations can’t fix. Congrats!

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the advice. I know that everyone is different, and I do expect some weight gain, but having visited the doc yesterday, she also advised to eat for one, and not try to gain a bunch of weight. I am continuing with exercise 6 days a week and plan to eat as healthy as possible. I am hoping the you guys are right, the dress is forgiving and I am one of those who does not show too early. We are throwing a reception bbq for our own wedding the weekend before my friend’s wedding, and we are announcing the pregnancy there! I am so excited and happy. It’s pretty difficult to keep it a secret. I am bursting with excitment. I don’t want to cause my friend any stress with my dress so here’s hoping I don’t change too much in the next 11 weeks!!! Soooo happy 🙂 Thanks everyone for your help. This place is the best.

Also, unfortunately I actually have a very short torso… wonder how that will play out.

Some people have quite a bit of water weight at that point from bloating, but it’ll be hard to know for sure until it happens. Most dresses can be taken out 1-2 inches, so it should be ok regardless. Most manufacturers also let you order extra fabric – if you think there’s a possibility that you may want to insert a panel into the side to give you more room, that would be a good route. May make you feel better to have it!
