In August 2013 I ordered a bridesmaid’s dress for a friend’s wedding. In October I found out I am expecting. The bridesmaid dress recently came in and it is already quite snug (I am 20 weeks). The wedding is at the end of April (I will be more like 30-31 weeks). I notified the bride that the dress does not fit, and that I could add additional panels of fabric, which would possibly not look great due to where the seams on the dress are located, or I could buy a maternity dress to wear, which would not be the same fabric and color exactly as the other maids (they don’t make maternity dresses in the fabric or color she picked). I said I would do whatever she thought best.
Her response was “So, I’m leaving this up to you. It sounds like you’re trying to tell me that you’re dropping out of the wedding without actually saying it. Let me know either way.”
I’m not sure how to proceed. I don’t want to drop out of the wedding and upset her, but I also feel it’s not my place to just pick something random to wear as a bridesmaid and tell her to deal with it. The bride and I are both very close with the other bridesmaids so now it’s just a totally awkward and tense situation.
