Hey everyone! So my husband and I have been TTC since February, only I've been gone for work at ALL the wrong times almost all year. These last couple months I've been home and yesterday after being litterally assaulted by the smell of the sausage/egg omelets my husband was cooking for breakfast (to the point I was gagging a little), I realized I was just 3 days late and decided to take a pregnancy test. Guess what?! It was POSITIVE! We are so excited and happy, it's hard to contain. I could only take one test because it's all I had in the house... so what's next? I called the OBGYN but they said they wont see me until 8 weeks. What is with everyone "getting confirmed" with the Dr.? Is that something I need to do? The nurse at the GYN didn't seem concerned with that - is the home test alone enough? Any help and sticky baby wishes would be appreciated! :)

@PandasWifey: First, congratulations!  I actually asked the nurse on the phone if I needed to come in for a blood test or a urine test in the office and she said no.  She told me that the tests nowadays are really accurate and unless something seems to be going wrong, they'll see me between 8-10 weeks.

Congrats! I think you took the right steps by scheduling a doctor's appointment.

Congratulations!!!  They don't confirm with a blood test or anything like that now, or at least my doctor didn't.  The digital tests are pretty darn accurate.  I happened to have a visit scheduled the week I found out just to meet a new OBGYN I was interested in switching too and when she found out I had just received a positive they did have me pee in a cup and confirmed I was pregnant but otherwise we mostly just spoke about what I should and shouldn't eat, my risk profile, and then made an appt for 8 weeks for an ultrasound and my first visit.  So I don't think what they said is out of the ordinary.  Sticky baby dust to you!!  How have you been feeling?

    Congrats!!!!!

I asked for a blood test confirmation, they just faxed paperwork over to the lab and I walked over during lunch. I wanted bloodwork confirmation.

I do know some offices won't do it though.

Thanks so much everyone for all the Congrats/advice! :) I have an apt. with my family Dr. the day after tomorrow for my Nexium perscription, maybe I'll ask their thoughts then if they think I should do bloodwork... I'm so excited - if they say no, I think I might take some more tests just to be sure lol. Hubby thinks I'm crazy of course.

I'm feeling pretty good. The girls are a little sore and so is my lower back off and on, but no other real symptoms today. Our new puppy pooped on the carpet and I couldn't come wtihin 10 feet of it so my hubby had to clean it up - super sniffer at its worst lol!

@PandasWifey: Congrats!!!! my dog pooped on the floor in another room last night and I immediately smelled it. Yuck!

My doctor doesn't see people until 8-10 weeks, so I will go in next Friday, December 16, for my confirmation appointment. THen, we will do an ultrasound, etc. My doctor's office only does urine tests to confirm that early and the nurses at the front were like, "After 3 tests, I'm sure you are pregnant." So funny! My girls are way sore--already gone up a bra size and I'm gassy. Gotta love what our body goes through for a baby!

The only reason I went to the doctor for a urine test when my home pregnancy test was positive was because my fiance refused to believe me! So I had the doctor write a note for him! haha

    CONGRATS TO YOU!

Congrats!!! I went in to get my pregnancy confirmed I think only because I wasn't TTC and I hadn't ever been to the women's health center. They had to meet me and start my file, talk to me about not drinking etc. I think they basically went over with us what they would go over with a patient who was TTC. After that they had me wait until 8 weeks.

When I went in for my first pregnancy appointment (at 10 weeks), they never did anything to confirm the pregnancy.  The fact that I said I received a positive at home and that I didn't have a period was enough for them.  The nurse practitioner said that the home tests are good enough these days and the other symptoms are pretty telling.

First off, congratulations!  That's such wonderful news!

The only thing I wanted to say is regarding the Nexium...PPIs haven't really been studied for use in pregnant women, so I would recommend maybe not taking it for the next couple of days until you see your PCP this week.  It's *probably* fine, but you'll want to hold off on it until you can get the green light from an MD.

    Congratulations again!

@PandasWifey:  I asked to come in for a blood test to confirm the HPT.  I'm sure you could call and ask for the same.

Thanks ladies! :) I'll check about the Nexium, but I do have some pretty nasty stomach ulcers, so I'd be relcutant to stop taking it unless they say it's absolutely detrimental. If ulcers start bleeding you can literally die from that :(

@Mrs. Bonnie Blue: LOL I know, it's crazy! congrats on your first appointment coming up! Since, we're pretty close in timeframe, we should keep in touch along the way! I'm pretty sure I'm only at 4 weeks because I tested as soon as I was about 4 days late, so I'm pretty freakin nervous!

@PandasWifey: That sounds great! Plus, I do love me some pandas! :) I'm so excited! I've been trying to keep it quiet, but I get so excited that several people know. :) If it all goes well at the appointment, we will probably send an announcement in our Christmas cards. Fingers crossed!!!

@PandasWifey: Have a happy and healthy pregnancy and a very stick baby!

A lot of drs/clinic wait until 8-10 weeks for the first appt. Getting confirmed at the doctor is a waste of time. I literally did the same pee test at the dr that I did at home. Waste of my time and did not provide any peace of mind or excitement that was not there already.

@Mewcakes: Ask a pharmacist. You can do that without a Dr. appt.

Americans don't use their pharmacists enough!

@ellabee: Thanks! I did have an apt. with my family Dr. today - like you said, same pee test, but hey, it's confirmed!

Regarding the Nexium, Dr. said its about the same as Tylenol (Category B), so it's safe, but since I know I'll be taking Tylenol for my headaches I'm gonna try to take as little as possible :)
