Thank you for post! I am TTC and I am over 35+. I also live in VA, who is your doctor and hospital if you do not mind me asking.

@bananasareyellow:  thank you for sharing this information.  Can I actually just ask for any of these screening or should I wait to see what my OB recommends??

@bananasareyellow:

I had the Harmony test last week and I’m dying for the results!  It’s definitely worth it to arm yourself with information.

are these tests done prior to pregnancy or after you are already pregnant?

i will be TTC in less than 10 days.  at my gyn appt, i asked about genetic screening.  after speaking to the specialist, FI and I decided that whatever the result, it wasn’t going to stop us from trying so it would be one less thing to worry about if they give the test after you are pregnant anyway.

i am 32, not a carrier for tay sacks, and my brother has spina bifida.

@ajillity81:  The tests mentioned are for pregnant women only.  After a woman is 10 weeks, they take her blood and can isolate the fetal DNA and analyze the chromosones for any abnormality.  There are other tests, for things like Cystic Fibrosis, that test whether or not the mother is a carrier.  That can be done before she is pregnant.
