@KIKI25:  ask the doctor to give you a prescription. I had the same problem. I think it has to do with zinc. I threw up three times in my car and I decided to stop taking them. I can tolerate the prescription.

this problem was mentioned a few times on the TTC board with prenatals too. The advice I heard most often was to take them with food, never on an empty stomach.

@KIKI25:  I took ones with no iron, and re-introduced iron a week later in slow-release tablets. Made a WORLD of difference!

I also took my prenatals RIGHT before bed so I could sleep through the nausea!

the first tri you only need folic acid rather than a full prenatal (says my doctor). you could just take that until your appt

otherwise try taking them at night before you sleep

It’s usually iron that causes nausea so check the label to see if this brand has iron.  As a PP said, a prenatal isn’t essential for a healthy pregnancy (at any time, not just the first trimester) if you’re nutrition is good, so you could take a seperate folic acid for the time being until you can see if there’s a different brand of prenatal that won’t make you nauseous.

Before TTC I started taking a prenatal that was prescribed to me by my doctor and it made me so nauseaus. i called and they said to switch to a different one. I just went and got the one-a-day prenatals that have two different pills to take. I started taking those and did not get any nausea.. well, until I was actually pregnant.

When I was having real bad nausea my doctor suggested skipping my prenatal & just taking a folic acid supplement for a while. Also the nurse practitioner suggested freezing my prenatals as that would keep the prenatal from digesting in my stomach. (It wouldn’t start digesting until it got to my intestines). I didn’t try it because magically in my 2nd trimester my prenatals aren’t bothering me anymore 🙂

I’m not pregnant YET ;). I take the New Chapter prenatals. I don’t have any issue with them. I take mine at night, so maybe I’m asleep and don’t notice. I hope you find something that works for you.

I take the gummy prenatals too because the pills made me nauseated!
