I may be a bit more sentimental than most photographers, but a handwritten thank you note would be lovely! In this age of email and text messaging, the old school handwritten card really shows your appreciation. As far as gift certificates, you can never go wrong with B&H Photo. Many photographers buy from them. Hope this helps!
I think the biggest compliment would be to give him a meaningful gift, but to also find a way to expose his photog skills to the public so he could get more business? Is he a wedding photographer? Or is he a freelance?
My uncle and my friends husband are shooting our wedding. I would love to get them a camera lens.., maybe find a shop that you can get a gift certificate for a camera lens or equipment?
I think a handwritten note is fine. If the phots are great, I agree with Sparkles and give good word of mouth. You don't know as of yet how they will turn out. If you have a blog and they're great, tell him you will feature his/her work on your blog!
Give a massage gift certificate! You have nooo idea how much your whole body hurts after a long wedding.

I like the ideas from above. I think a restaurant gift certificate would be great beause it is a gift that can be used for personal time in a busy schedule. A handwritten note with whatever gift I'm sure would be much appreciated as well.
My photographer was into gadgets so we got him a Best Buy gift card and a handwritten thank you note.

we would like to get a gift certificate for our photographer as a thank-you... he is a family friend who basically shot our wedding for free. any ideas on what a photographer would appreciate?
