One of my bridesmaids made an amazing chalkboard program for our wedding ceremony, I would love to preserve it by maybe putting a clear coat or something over it… I need suggestions on how to make this work b/c I cannot brush something directly over it(dont want to smear). .

I’m an art teacher and I use aerosol hairspray to lock and set chalk drawings all the time. You can also use a spray lacquer fixative (like a clear spray paint) from the craft store.

@tiffani3089: I would think you could do it with something like an acrylic clear coat spray.

Artists use something called Spray Fixative, it comes in a form called Workable, which means you can add to it, or touch it up afterward, and a regular fixative that seals the finished product. They come in matte, satin and gloss, and then a variety even beyond that in archival qualities like UV resistence, which is really only necessary with colors.
you can get them in the art section of any craft store for about $9
