I like the Cici one the best.
If you decide to get the David's Bridal one, make sure you get in writing about the alterations. I have heard that they like to over charge.
You still have a couple months before you have to make a decision, so if you aren't happy with either one, you can still look around.
I like the Cici dress better than the David's Bridal dress too. My usual opinion is that one should never buy a dress that they can't try on first. I found a dress that I liked on a designer's website and searched everywhere for it but I couldn't find a single store that carried it so that I could try it on. I ultimately decided to forget about the dress.
However, I think with that particular Cici dress there is nothing too outrageous that you wouldn't be able to make an educated guess on whether you would like it on yourself or not. You obviously aren't in love with the DB dress and if you feel like you are going to struggle finding something perfect for you in a store, I think you should take your chance on the Cici dress. You could also just go to regular dress stores (non bridal) and try on some dresses with similar silhouettes just to be sure.
That Cici dress is stunning! Do you know about the return policy for it?? If you end up hating it, you still have time to find something else!
I think the Cici dress is beautiful. But also a friendly word of advice, Davids Bridal is notorious for saying anything to sell a dress, bought my dress a year ago during a sale they said was ending that night. Turns out the sale was still going on months later and is still going on now.
I don't know... I am weary of purchasing clothes without trying them on first. It seems that you have a few months left to search for your dress. I think you should try to find a dress with that has that similar design of the Cici dress before you order. I know that it can be tempting to buy things when there are sales, but I think with a purchase like this you should be absolutely sure before you order anything.
Ah yes! I remember you psoting this a while back! It's a beautiful dress! Any chance the Etsy seller could send you pics fo the dress on someone, so you have a better sense of what it could look like on you? Also, stores constantly have sales, although I know it's tough when something is happening *now* and you're worried it won't later.
@noritake22- If I go with the David's dress, I think I'd take it to an outside alterations place. Although, when I complained about the train on the dress (i really don't want one!) our consultant got the alterations lady who showed us different, semi-permenant bustles she could put on the gown and how she could change the armholes for me (otherwise the dress fit perfectly!). They said they could do both alterations for only $50! I would definitely get that in writing!
@Tulip61110- I have been calling around to dress shops in the area. So far, no one carries ANY mermaid or trumpet gowns in my size or larger to try on! YIKES! I am starting to get the impression that it is nearly Blasphemous for a girl my size to want a dress that hugs her curves, not hide them! There are a few more shops in the area I have to hit up and I'm going to start asking about mermaid/trumpet bridesmaid gowns too. Maybe they'll have those in my size to try on!
@amanda.lynn- No returns on the Cici dress! It is custom cut and sewn to fit your figure perfectly (you send them a million billion of your measurements, no kidding!) so they won't do returns. They do do custom alterations and will build the bustle into your dress if you request it (that's the route I'd want to go!). Cici bridal wants your dress to fit you like a glove so what you pay them is it- no alterations needed what-so-ever.
@Ivory- REALLY?! They out right lied to you about when the sale ended?! That's terrible! I would hope for more honesty then that, but I will definitely be keeping that in mind! And at least their dresses are affordable even without the sale, so even if it does end when they said it would (Dec. 22) the dress is still in my price range.
Can you go to a regular bridal shop to look at mermaid gowns? They also might have different sizes in store for you to try on than David's. That being said I think that dres is completely lovely and I think would look great on a girl with curves!
I like the Cici much better but before going that route I would try to find another place where you can try on a similar style just so you feel more secure in purchasing the Cici online.
LOVE THE CICI!! goo with it! i almost bought a dress from her. I would honestly just go for it
CICI! I say go for the dress you love! AND its on sale!! Dont settle as long as the dress is in your budget :)
I'm also wary of buying things I haven't tried on first. HOWEVER, this is the dress that you keep coming back too AND they take all your measurements and want it to be perfect (you may want to go to an expert seamstress to have your measurements taken). Plus, the way you talk about it, it's clear that this is the way you want to go. So go! Do it!
And tell you what; if you get the Cici and you don't like it, we owe you a coke ;-)
I think the CiCi dress is far prettier than the DB dress. As far as trying on mermaids in your size, at Kleinfeld's they have a bunch of size 20s (they list on their website when tehy have a larger-sized sample of a dress) and some bridal stores do carry larger samples.
I am a street size 6 and had a hard time getting in to some mermaid samples, so I feel your pain. Those things are tiny!
LOVE the Cici too. My 1st thought would be to buy the Cici now. If it doesn’t fit/you can't alter it, you can always re-sell it.
@MissHelen- Can I make that a diet coke? ;p I hope if I get it I LOVE it!
@LittleSpitFire- I live in Wisconsin. There are no Klienfelds around here. There is one national chain- David's, and a ton of independent businesses. From everything I hear, Klienfeld's sounds pretty awesome and I wish there were one nearby!
@Dancy905- Our budget is such that I cannot in any way, shape, or form be a two dress bride! Whatever decision I make (and I hope its the right one!) is the final decision. I think if we had the budget for a second dress if I hated the first, I'd feel more confident with going with Cici Bridal... *sigh* Being a poor student stinks!
Otherwise, it seems that everyone thinks I should go with the Cici Bridal mermaid dress. Its what my heart says too, but my brain says that there are lots of things I think I'll look good in, but once I try them on I hate how they make me look. Erg. Decisions decisions!
I like the Cici one better for your figure. I think the thinner straps, placement and neckline will look amazing on you.
So nobody at all thinks i ought to go with the David's Bridal dress, huh? At least this isn't a 49%/51% split! :)
Rabbit, I think you posted pics of yourself last time, and from what I remember, your figure would ROCK that Cici dress!
I say go for it!!!
The Cici is an awesome dress and whether or not you decide to go with it, I don't think you should buy the DB dress because you aren't really happy about it. You should be happy about your dress!
UPDATE: I went with the Cici Bridal dress! I am SOOOOOO excited about it! I wish it were done already so I could try it on! Heh. I have not a single regret about my decision (yet...dun ta dun...)! Yay!
Congrats! That is so exciting, I'm sure you'll look HOT in it!
Just curious, can you post a pic of you in your wedding dress? I actually got that one you tried from DB....so now I'm curious!!

The dress I have been drooling over online is 20% off right now, but Only until December 25th. I cannot try on this particular dress as its a one of a kind dress made by an independent wedding dress company that goes through etsy. I decided to go looking for similar dresses (mermaids and trumpets) and ended up at David's bridal today. While their online catelog swears they carry mermaids and trumpets in my size (18), the store I went to doesn't! Our consultant said they have never once gotten a mermaid or trumpet over a size 14, and most of the time they max out at size 8 or 10! I was upset, but still tried on 4 dresses.
Well, I really liked one of the dresses and the store is running a sale on all their dresses, but only until December 22nd. Erg! It was a bit tight under the arms (there are off the shoulder straps), but otherwise I felt it was a nice dress which flattered me and made me look better then I usually am. I just didn't get a "this is the one." vibe.
So now, I am in a bind. Do I buy a dress on sale (under $300 but would need alterations) that I LIKE, but didn't get that angels-singing-everyone-crying moment (although my FMIL and the consultant were raving about it). Do I buy a custom dress I have been in love with online for months, but can't seem to find a shop in the area that carries similar things so I've no idea if the style would look good on me? Or...something else?!
Sorry the picture of me in the David's Bridal Dress (9T9861 in White) is so odd. I have a ton of pictures of the back but this is the Only one my FMIL took of the front!)
