Pretentious or Cute?

    I voted “no, but I still wouldn’t do it” because I’ve found that, as a guest, it can be a PITA to find a table by name. At least with numbers you can scan the room, identify the numerical pattern, and find your table’s location in an efficient manner. With table names you have to wander around the entire reception space, looking at each table, just to find your. It’s kinda annoying.

    I think it’s a fabulous way to personalize your wedding! I’ve been to plenty of weddings that numbered tables with the names of their favorite towns and/or places. It’s YOUR wedding!

    I like the idea!  It’s really not that hard to find the tables if they aren’t numbered, it might just take a few extra minutes but it’s fine.  I like when people have table names that are meaningful to them instead of just numbers!

    I might alphabetize the cities that way they’re easier to find, but I think it’s a great idea.

    I voted “No – It’s a cute personal touch” b/c it is! Very creative idea. Plus guests have plenty of time to mingle and find their tables anyway. So they have to ask someone where “Amsterdam” or “Rome” are, big deal. 🙂

    I think it’s a great idea, I like table names since it adds a personal touch. 

    Our caterer gave us a tip: Give the tables names AND numbers.  Like Table 1: Paris, 2: Berlin.  If you’re having a platted meal it is much easier for the servers to locate the tables and give each guest the proper meal if they are numbered.

    I voted that it could go either way because I can see why someone might think that, but really, your wedding will include your most loved ones & I really can’t imagine someone actually saying that!

    I voted “not pretentious, but I wouldn’t do it.” As a guest I hate it when the tables aren’t numbered. They’re so much harder to find! I went to one that named them after trees. My table-mates and I walked all over that ballroom to try to find ours. This is an instance where I prefer to stick to the tried and true.

    to avoid the problem @lovekiss: mentions, if you have a lot of tables, I would just have a mini map of the floor as well.  You’re probably making one anyways when you’re figuring out where everyone sits, just print it with the table numbers!

    I think it’s great idea! You went there together and its a great memory you share. i think it would only be pretentious if you were loaded and named tables after all the different countries you have been to while on huge lavish vacations – that would say “look how rich we are, we’ve been to all these lovely places that you’d only wish to go to”. You were backpacking. You’re not bragging, your sharing!

    I don’t think it’s pretentious, but I totally agree how annoying it can be to find your table as a guest when they aren’t laid out numerically! I’ve wandered through two weddings like that, both with like 20+ tables and we found ours on like the 19th try.

    I named our tables after family cats… however, I also put a table plan in the back of everyone’s programmes, along with a list of their names alphabetically stating which table they were on, so that they could find their seat with ease.
