I never take joy in hurting my SO (even though what yours is doing sounds insane)….maybe it’s time to find a better way to communicate 😛

This all seems rather passive agressive and not really healthy.  I don’t think I could deal with it.  My FI and I have a rule that we “don’t drop hints.”  We say exactly what we want.  If I want go out on a romantic date, I tell him that.  If he doesn’t like me being criticle of the way he cooks, he tells me to get out of the kitchen (I can be picky about things)  It really has helped out relationship.

Wow that would drive me crazy!!  His behavior is so passive aggressive and really not appropriate!

While I get this post wasn’t meant to bash your FI, that coat hook thing really pisses me off. It’s so juvenile to hide things just because you were “using his hook.”

ETA: NOT saying anything is wrong with your relationship BTW! I totally get it, my husband does really annoying stuff too. 😉

@Laurenskii:  Thanks for the update.  I was actually worried there for a moment. 🙂  I have a bunch of friends (mostly girls, but I’m sure guys do it too) that play the “guess what I’m thinking game” or its uglier variation “guess why I’m mad at you” and get mad if their SO guess wrong.  Their relationships are not healthy as they don’t communicate well.  Sounds like yours is better than that at least.  🙂

This wouldn’t fly with me. I don’t like being teased and get rather worked up about it. Fortunatley FI doesn’t do it, but what your FI does would probably make me cry eventually. :/

Then again, if I were in your shoes I’d just take all the coat hooks off the wall.

So I guess I’d do something similar.

wow. just, wow. Your fi sounds like he really needs to learn how to chill out. Laying on the horn for 30 seconds just because someone didn’t use their turn signal? Even if you’re exaggerating for dramatic effect, that’s a pretty extreme and hostile over-reaction. He really needs some anger management lessons or if he’s not dead of a stress-related heart attack by the time he’s 40, you’ll probably smother him with a pillow after 20 years of putting up with that BS.
