I’ve been MIA for a while, so lots of things to catch up on with Bees! I feel like I’ve been procrastinating.
Firstly: cute caketoppers!
So, Shawn and I decided that we are doing like a small ceremonial cake to have the fun-ness/tradition of cutting the cake, and maybe for the bridal party or something. But, the main dessert will be a bunch of delicious cannolis.
FREAKING YUM, CANNOLIS. It’s also a nice way to honor my Italian background.
But, I digress. So the Etsy store, CherryRedToppers, does these really cute gnome caketoppers that I thought were fun and felt like “us.” They have two different versions (you can get one with just the little gnome people or one with the gnomes plus a cute little bunting sign, and I think I want to do the one with the sign, with maybe our initials or something. Not sure yet). They can be made in your wedding colors and a couple different little details, too.

I messaged CherryRedToppers a couple weeks ago to ask if the male gnome dude could have a little goatee, but haven’t heard back yet. I think they’re really busy right now getting ready for summer weddings, though – I’ll probably send another message to them asking.
Anyway, keeping in mind that our wedding style is probably well-described as sweet, romantic, slightly geeky, offbeat fun with a lot of personal touches, I think this is very nice 😀 Plus, I love the idea of being able to keep it in a shadow box on the wall. I hope the goatee can be added on, but then again I don’t know if it would look weird. What do you guys think?
(P.S. Wasn’t sure whether to post this in “Food” or “Decor,” but I saw a cake topper post in “Food,” so that’s where I went!)

Oh how cute! I think that will be great. I hope they can do the goatee!

Tigerlilybride: Okay, cool! I wasn’t sure if it would look really weird on the little gnome dude – I didn’t want to take away from the original design or anything! 🙂

Really really cute – I’m still grinning from their adorableness! The goatee would be a nice personal touch, maybe photos hop to see what it would look like….?

talia.teresa: Oh my heck, they are freaking adorable!! I’m sure a goatee could be added to that and I love the idea of keeping them in a shadowbox, too! Super duper cute!
And PS- I never thought I liked cannolis til I tried them again recently. Helloooo! Yum!

I would think that it would be fairly easy to add a goatee. Here’s a cake topper that I ended up throwing away, but you can see how I added the beard onto the groom’s face just by using a different colored clay.

ms-tea: Good idea, I’ll probably try that. I don’t want it to look super weird, and like it is hanging off of the guy’s face or anything.

RedHeadKel: Even though I grew up in an Italian family, I had the same experience! When I was younger I had one, and maybe the ricotta filling wasn’t blended well so it was kinda lumpy and gross. But I had them again years later, and it was amaaaazing. They had put some almond extract and mini chocolate chips in the filling. OMG.
housebee: Why’d you end up throwing it away?! It’s super cute! And the beard looks great 🙂

talia.teresa: Aw thanks, but this was actually the first topper I ever made, so it was kind of meh. I ended up changing my wedding colors and made this instead.

housebee: OH MY GOD THAT IS SOOOOO ADORABLE. Okay, I get it now 😀 I LOVE IT. That’s pretty much the definition of DIY not seeming like DIY.
