To those hoping to use cute wedding stamps:

An increase happened last year around May too. I mailed my STDs two weeks after the postage increase and had to use the regular-old "forever" bell stamps because they were the only thing available in the right denomination. There will be no wedding/love/heart-themed stamps available until a month or two after the price increase goes into effect.

So just be prepared if you had your heart set on heart stamps and were planning to mail things on May 11 or after. Unless you want to use a pretty wedding stamp and a two-cent stamp in combination, that is.

Whew!!!  Close one.  Our invites just went out with a cute 42-cent sunflower stamp on the return envelope.  But our RSVP deadline is May 1!  Whew!

Thanks for the warning!  It looks like our invitations will still be aok since they’re going out before May 11, but I will be sure to use forever stamps on our RSVP envelopes!  (The price change is occurring between the time we send out our invitations and the RSVP date…yuck!)

To all brides just beginning to plan a wedding for next year: the price of stamps goes up every year in May.  The price change is always announced in February.  So, if you’re planning a wedding for ~June 2010 or after, don’t buy your stamps too well in advance.

Also, it hasn’t been as well reported, but the price of post card stamps is going up as well, in case anyone is doing postcard invitations or RSVP cards.

Yep, thanks Mighty!  And just remember, that 42 cent stamps may or may not work on your invitations depending on how heavy they are! (i would hate for someone to buy a whole bunch of forever stamps only to find that postage costs more than 42 cents!)

My invites ended up cost $1 each to mail….yikes! I had no idea they would be that much, and I felt bad that my mom spent that much when most of them were for my FILs list!

This is a good reminder for people sending out invitations now — put a forever stamp on your RSVP cards, since the rate increase will be happening around your RSVP deadlines.
