I think both... also the majority of our flowers are imported & that is what drives the cost up.
I'm from Vancouver too & you're lucky you aren't getting married here! No matter where you go the prices are inflated. Grocery stores will costs you a small fortune, a florist is worse...
Thank goodness my mom is a florist or we'd be going sans flowers! My mom said that even the wholesaler is ridiculous lately. It's cheaper for her to order flowers from Costco than it is from the auction or wholesaler. You can get roses from Costco for about $1 a stem year round.

Sooo... this may seem like a foolish question, but I am not going through a florist to have bouquets made, so I thought the hive could help me out.
I know certain flowers are "in season" and hence cheaper for any given month. But does the price of flowers also fluctuate depending on whre you live? I am having a destination wedding in Canada's East Coast, and I currently live on the West Coast. Because the climate is different here than there, I feel like talking to florists here to get a price point for flowers wouldn't be helpful for planning a June wedding back East.
Oh my, that seemed like a ramble... bottom line, are the price of flowers influenced by location of the florist in addition to "season" for the flower?
Thanks!
