mrscingle - those are great prices to me! I know I would never get those prices in Boston, but that's what I get for desperatly wanting a downtown Boston ... perhaps you could post this in the local Cleveland board and the responses might be more helpful!
I too am from Boston and those prices are pretty amazing. Everywhere I have looked the prices start around $70-$75 for an updo.
I am getting mine done in a small town in PA, about 2 hours from cleveland, and it's going to cost $80 including a trial. So I'd say your price is normal - though they all seem high to me! If you look at service prices online i hate how "prom or special occasion" hair is nearly half the price of "bridal" hair. Bleh.
I live out in the country in WA and I'm paying $80 for my hair too...It just costs alot, sadly. :(
I think thats my problem! If I was going to prom it'd be half the price. Oh well, it is my ONLY wedding day (we hope lol) might as well live a little!
Be glad that you don't live in California because my hair trial + makeup is $100.
My friend paid $250 last year for her wedding up-do and makeup in a small town outside Boston. I was one of her BM's, but I went to my regular hairdresser, she charged me $50 to do my hair and makeup. Seriously, throwing the word "wedding" into the mix raises the price like nobody's business. It's so unfair. That said, I think you are getting a great deal with the prices you've been quoted.
I'm getting married in the Detroit area, and those prices are a bit lower than what I'm paying...so I think even with regional considerations those are not bad quotes.
I also think it's pretty standard to pay for trials, though it sounds like some people have gotten them comped.
I think those are great prices. I paid $75 for hair and $75 for makeup for me and $50 for hair and $50 for makeup for each girl. They did travel to me though so it was nice not having to go somewhere.
I think those seem reasonable, in fact a lot lower than what I've heard in the Detroit area (like FizicsGirl).
Ok... I just got this quote from a vendor:
$275 for the bride, bridesmaids $185, trial $175. She also has a minimum of $1,000.
Am I nuts, or is this really really expensive? I'm not even sure if it is hair & makeup or just makeup. I know she has worked with several celebrities, but even so...in the Philly area is this what I should expect?
I'm being charged $85 for my hair with $75 for the trial - my girls are $60. Makeup is $125 for me with a free trial and $50 for the girls, and that's one of the cheapest quotes I've gotten in the DC/Baltimore area.

I just called my salon to see how much an updo will cost cause I would like to pay for the for my girls... I know I have awhile! Are these prices normal? I feel like its a little much but I've never had a wedding before!
Updo = starts at 50 Makeup = 30
For me the updo will be 60 and I have to pay for the trial which is 40.
