It seems some of us 2011 brides will be sharing our wedding date with Prince William & Kate Middleton!

Prince Charles has officially announced the engagement of his son Prince William and Kate Middleton. According to the statement they will be married in the spring or summer of 2011.

Any bets on a date? I'm going to go with June 18th for no particular reason!

I was really excited to read the news this morning! I don't really follow the Royal Family that closely... but it will be neat to be sharing a wedding year with Prince William and Kate! There will be plenty of news coverage I'm sure. Kind of cool.

I read online this morning that Prince Charles & Princess Diana got married on July 29th, 1981. Exactly 30 years ago. July 29th is a Friday in 2011... could you imagine if they chose that date?? I highly doubt they would do that... but its interesting for sure!

I'm going with June 25th (4 days after his birthday) or July 2 (1 day after what would have been Princess Di's 50th birthday).

I am so excited to see that they are officially engaged. I can't imagine what it would be like for Kate to hear that everyone was talking about their future engagement. Her waiting must have been horrible!!!

@PrairieGirl: I actually heard on Good Morning America that they were considering that date. But it might just be hearsay.

I am SO happy for them! I have a bit of an obsession with royal weddings, so I am really excited. Plus, I feel like it was really heinous of the British media to dub her "waity katie." That particularly stung, since I am named Katie and was also waiting for awhile. But yay! Now a royal wedding!!!!

I wonder if they will have a photobooth? Or a candy buffet? Pocket fold invites? LOL

I cannot wait to see her ring and her dress!

Diana went with a sapphire ringed with diamonds for her ring.  Sarah Ferguson went for a ruby ringed by diamonds.  What did Kate opt for?  Dying to know!

Hmmm... with Diana's ring?  That strikes me as a bit odd given how famously unhappy her marriage was.  However, she clearly was beloved by her children and so many around the world and in that way, it is a tribute.  I wish them both many many years of happiness.  They seem very grounded and they look so happy together... how exciting to watch!   I admit, I totally ate up all the coverage of Chelsea Clinton's wedding and I am sure this too will be so beautiful.

I'm putting my money on end of June :)

Cute side story: My little cousin is my MOH and she made an adorable speech at FI and I's engagement dinner. Here is what she said,

"I remember being little girls and having *mrs.peters.to.be* map out our futures. She told me that she would marry Prince William and, being the nice cousin that she is, she would of course have me marry Prince Harry. We'd be lovely beautiful princess and live a charmed life. Well, as the years have passed those dreams we had as little girls have faded. I take comfort though in knowing that even though *mrs.peters.to.be* won't be the Queen of England, *mr.peters* will still treat her like the princess she always dreamed of being."

That just melted my heart. Thought I should share :) Kate is still one lucky girl!

Here's some images from their photo call with the press this morning.

Regarding the ring he said..."This was my way of making sure that my mother didn't miss out on today,"

IMO - regarding her wearing Diana's ring - Just because Diana's marriage wasn't a happy one doesn't mean that it's the fault of the ring.

If I were in Kate's shoes, I would be proud and honored to wear a ring that belonged to someone my future husband loved so much, someone who was an incredible mother to him, and meant the world to him.  And that it belonged to someone that most of the world admired as well.  I'd be proud that he'd want me to have such a special item.  To William, that ring is a symbol of his mother -- not of a lousy marriage and a sad ending.  It's his memory of his mom and that really makes it special that his future wife would willingly want to wear it.  Knowing that I'm deserving of the ring that someone so special in my future husband's life wore, would make that ring so amazing to me.

    I don't believe rings/jewelry carry bad luck.

@BanditGirl: I agree with you 100%! I would incredibly honored and touched if I were Kate. What a symbol of his mother's legacy of service, strength and love to pass on to the woman he loves.

Unfortunately, I don't think Kate will have very much input on her own wedding. Sad to say but I'm sure they have an entire committee that plans the wedding for them. Which means even if she wanted to...I don't think she'd have much to say if she joined the hive.

It stinks that she probably won't be able to have much say in the wedding planning process. Especially considering she is an event planner for a living.

@Aubergold: Don't feel bad for Harry or his future wife!  I'm sure that Diana probably had some other amazing rings to choose from!  That, or Harry's wife will get the pick of whatever ring she wants from the Royal jewelers, I'm sure!  I would bet that if Harry got engaged first, he would've used Diana's ring!

Kate Middleton will be the first commoner to marry an heir to the throne in 350 years.

Just read that on Yahoo's homepage. Wow!

@sarahd07: I don't know what royal etiquette/protocol on the ring is.  Would be interesting to know!  If it were my family, my Dad would say "First one who gets engaged gets the ring!"  lol!
