I have a strong preference for round over princess, although I also like Marquise and pear cut stones. Have you considered having the princess stone set in a RHR? That’s something you could wear at all times in respect for your parents and your mum’s gift, but your ER would still be the stone your DH gave you.

I prefer round over princess but I don’t have a good reason other than preferring the shape of a circle to the shape of a square!

I have a hard time saying no to free things, especially things that are lovely and free… I would be more likely to purchase round than princess. I just think that I will poke myself with the pointed edges. I would certainly take one of sentimental value. I would prefer round, cushion, radiant, asscher, or anything without pointed edges. I would make the exception for a heart shape though! I think that I would take the diamond. Actually, you could have two sets. I know a woman who kept her old and new set, and would swap them out as she saw fit. Best of luck to you! Congrats on the 5th anniversary!

What if you put your mom’s diamond into a pendant to wear on a necklace?

I voted princess because I am one, dang it!!

seriously, princess looks best on my very short finger.  BF agreed once he saw a round on my finger.  Made it look more like a toe 😉

mrstattoo10816:  You should take your mom’s P cut diamond, find a matching pair of smaller princess cut stones and make a “past, present and future” RHR! I know you say you’re not a jewelry person, but maybe having such a lovely and sentimental piece could change that? You could even use gemstones as sidestones, like whatever the “birthstone” is for the month you were married?

I really love the round diamond in your ering, I am a princess cut fan, but I think a round really suits your setting.
