I have an invitation design in Illustrator of an image that I want to print on very dark metallic paper (Stardream Anthracite) with light silver ink.
So what printed can do this and what is it called? Offset? Thermography?
Can you recommend any vendor in NYC or online that will do this sort of printing in small lots?

You’ll probably do best with thermography, though offset printing may work if the ink is opaque enough. I had metallic thermography done (it’s not a shiny metallic, it’s just kind of glimmery), at http://www.nwprintedsolutions.com. They were very helpful, did a great job, and they do it in as small lots as you need. The only thing is that they pretty much charge per setup, not per piece, so it can cost you quite a bit depending on how many different kinds of pieces you have. If you have a few, I’d try to fit them on one sheet and get them printed first, then cut.
Email them and ask if they have your paper, or if you’ll need to supply your own. They’ll give you a price quote for the different types of print, and can send you samples.

I emailed them, thanks! If they have/can use 11×17 paper I can fit my 3 pieces on it. Was the metallic "glimmery" by choice or is that how thermography turns out? What color paper did you print on and was it easily legible?
