I say no, it wouldn't be "tacky." I've recieved several with clear address labels. And since it's a STD, it's less formal than a wedding invitation. You should be fine.
I honestly A) probably wouldn't even notice and B) wouldn't even occur to me to think it was tacky even if I DID notice....Who cares about the address on the front of the card? Especially since you already bough the paper and envelopes....Good luck! Let us know how they turn out :)
I say do it. It is the STD and not the actual invite. I can tell you that most people won't even notice so do what is easier for you.
I agree...go for it! There are plenty of fonts out there that look like handwritting if you wanted to go that route. I will probably be doing the same, so know you aren't alone!
I definitely think you can get away with this for a STD card. I don't think anyone will notice it! :)
That's what we did for our STD cards. You actually couldn't even tell they were labels and turned out pretty nicely.
Awesome, thank you so much...mom's not a fan but that's just too bad. We won't do it for the invites. Great input!!
I don't see any issues with using labels, clear or otherwise. I used white labels for my Save-the-Dates. Neither me nor my fiance has the best handwriting, and we're both engineers, so we want to be efficient. I already spend a REALLY LONG time inputting everybody's information into the wedding planning software we're using (Elm Software iDo. it's been really helpful.. http://www.elmsoftware.com/ido/) so I don't see why I should spend the time handwriting out the envelopes. We will probably do labels for the invitations as well - it's a pain trying to feed the envelopes through the printer (I know this and I haven't even done it yet!). In my opinion, the envelope is just the vehicle to get the invitation to my guests, and that's the important thing.
There's nothing wrong with using labels, clear or otherwise, on the STD envelopes.
We used clear labels for our STDs and invites. If anyone found it inappropriate they have kept it to themselves. IMO, people should be grateful that I didn't handwrite all the addresses in my chicken-scratch!

We bought Stardream folded cards/envelopes to DIY our STDs. They are meant to be used with a laser printer which we did. After printing a few samples we noticed the ink rubs off rather easily. I spoke with the company and was told to let them sit 24 hours.
We printed sample #2, inside of folded card and outside of envelope (waited 24+ hours) and mailed it to ourselves. The inside card is fine, the outside address is mostly scraped off, yet it still got to us.
At this point, I really don't want to buy more paper, our handwriting is not pretty. Would it be horribly tacky to print on clear address labels just for the STD?
