@MrsChadwick:  Maybe use the word “Intimate” instead?  We had a larger ceremony then you are talking about and both families were invited to it including extended family members, but we let people know that we were having a very small intimate wedding ceremony with a larger celebration party to follow.  We had a total (including us and the officiant) of 37 people at the ceremony and 76 at the reception.

We had a few people that wished they could have seen the ceremony, but no one was offended that they weren’t invited.

Would love an update, as this is literally exactly what we are doing. Just parents in niagara falls and a party when we return with the dances and the cake. However I’m worried my family will be upset and im also worried people will not take our reception seriously. I was planning on sending invitations still but saying we will be married in a private ceremony… Please join us to celebrate as we return as husband and wife, etc… Would you still have them RSVP?

Also, if you already had your wedding, how was it? I’ve done so much research on niagara falls and private weddings there, would love to know your plans!

@mrsgantz:  I just had an intimate wedding in NF this past Saturday & it was honestly the BEST decision my husband & I ever made!

If you added up all of MrN’s family & friends as well as my family & friends (much smaller) we were close to 200 and we originally wanted 75 people maximum so after alot of discussion, tears & arguments MrN & I decided to do a semi-elopement/intimate wedding in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

We booked a chapel (http://www.twoheartsweddings.com/) & dinner at Canyon Creek Fallsview then picked up our marriage license, spoke to our best man & maid of honour to confirm they were free then we paid deposits & THEN told our parents & few guests, we did it that way because we knew we’d get guilt & if things were booked & deposits paid then we’d have less pressure to cancel.

We are going to send out cards with a picture from the wedding & a little saying telling everyone we were married in a intimate ceremony & that we’d like to celebrate with everyone at a later date. We expect some backlash but overall a lot of people now know (thanks to Facebook & pictures being posted) however there is still a group of people that don’t know.

Our total cost with hotel, suit rental, dress alterations, paying for dinner (not booze, just food), chapel rental, flowers, make up, marriage license and misc expenses (rings, food while there) was just around $2500 and we received $700 in gifts plus some non-monetary gifts.

We had a GREAT day! I was so relaxed and calm plus I remember it all & I was able to talk to ALL my guests!

@MrsN2Be:  Thanks SO much for sharing, and Congrats!!! I remember we were posting on a same board before as well about Niagara Falls 🙂 So glad to hear it turned out amazing!!!
We will be using Oakes Gardren Theatre Park.. it will only be a handful of us!

Good Idea booking it before telling family… I am so worried they will not be all for it..!

@mrsgantz:  Oaks Garden Theatre is an amazing space, we didn’t go with it simply because of the time of the year (November 10th) it could be freezing, raining, snowing, etc so that’s why we chose an indoor chapel.

Originally we were going to do photographs there or at Oak Hall but the weather was to iffy so we stayed around the casino (which has beautiful areas) and then relaxed without having to drive anywhere.

Relaxing and not going anywhere sounds perfect too! Just checked out your recap! Can’t wait to see more pics of the chapel! I’m glad you said that the website is really dated but that it’s really pretty! The fact that the website was dated steered me away! Let me know if you share chapel pictures! For us to get married there instead of Oakes garden (and then still get pics at Oakes garden) would be wayyy cheaper!!

@mrsgantz:  I have a few pictures in the Chapel, they aren’t professional pics yet thought.

we did the basic package ($199) as we had our own photographer.

I’ll send you some pics in a PM

@MrsN2Be:  Hello I was just reading about your Niagara Falls Elopement and it sounded lovely!!  ,We are also thinking of doing the same thing, we have looked at a couple of places (the little log chapel & Two Hearts too)

I was wondering where you and your guests went to eat afterwards?  We are planning to have some immediate family, and the best man and moh attend and would like to do some kind of dinner celebration afterwards?

Thanks 🙂

@ontbride: We did go and eat, we had arranged an area at Canyon Creek in Fallsview Casino and worked out a set package pricing, it was great!
