I think thats a great idea.  We’re getting married in October and doing a fall theme.  For centerpieces we’re using potted mums with the hope that our guests will take it hom and return it to nature, unlike non-seasonal flowers which just die a few days later.

I got a plant once at a wedding and I loved the idea.

Unfortunately I didn’t plant mine and it died.

Perhaps put the plant in a tiny pot, for those that live in cities and don’t own any land?

Miss Rye Bread, I think that is a fabulous idea! And a great way for all of your guests to be more involved on your special day! Go for it! And let us know how it goes!

I definitely like the idea in the context of a group planting on the wedding day =)! It’s a really personal and thoughtful gesture on the part of you and Mr. RB. Have you figured out the logistics of it yet? If your guests are wearing nice outfits/heels, I’d probably try to make the planting process as easy as possible for the group. I don’t know if this would work, but it would be so cool if the planting occured at the actual site of your ceremony…what a wonderful way to mark the very place you and your FI officially become man and wife =). Again, that’s an issue of logistics and planting space at the conservancy, but it’s an idea!

That is a really lovely idea, but I would make arrangements with the Nature Conservancy in advance to make sure they allow it and can tell you what types of plants would be best for this situation. It sounds like you’re very concerned with making sure you pick an appropriate plant, but I just thought I’d point this out!

Miss Rye Bread, that’s a great idea!  My friend and her now husband did a tree planting ceremony during the ceremony and it was very lovely.
