Hello Bees that are professional photographers! How strict are you with engagement sessions being only for engaged couples? My dilemma is that a lot of the photographers I liked when I was looking for wedding photographers only do engagement sessions and weddings. Now, I’m looking for a maternity photo shoot and nothing has really caught my eye. Would you be willing to do an engagement session for an expecting couple?

I do it all the time. I would say that 80% of my wedding clients come back to me for bump/baby/family photos. If your photog doesn’t do them, they can most likely refer you to someone you like.

Are you asking to use the engagement shoot as the maternity shoot/substitute a maternity shoot for the included engagement shoot? I’m not sure I understand your question exactly. If its asking to use the engagement session as a maternity session that’s going to be up to the photographer – some are not experienced with maternity or aren’t comfortable shooting it. Others only include the engagement shoot as a way to meet and work with the couple before the wedding so it wouldn’t serve that purpose if they converted it to a maternity shoot after the wedding. This might not be what you mean at all though so let me know and hopefully I can add some insight.

Just email them. Let them know that you’re expecting, you love their work, and haven’t found anyone else you like as much and would the be available for a maternity session.
Some photographers are strict wedding/engagement only (and many only shoot engagements for their wedding couples). Likewise, you also find many family photographers that don’t shoot weddings.
The worst they’ll say is no, and if that’s the case they can certainly refer you to someone they think would be a good fit style wise.

@mariematt: No, we’re done with our engagement shoot and wedding and now I’m looking to get maternity/bump photos done. However, I haven’t found any photographer that does maternity/bump photos that I like but I have a whole list of wedding/engagement photographers that I love. So I was just curious as to whether they would be willing to do a maternity shoot because it will be similar to an engagement shoot.
@PizzutiStudios: Thanks for the feedback. Is it advertised on your website or do you just do it occasionally for your existing clients? In other words, if it’s not advertised, does it mean they probably won’t want to do it?
@starfish0116: That’s true. I totally would understand if they didn’t. I’m just looking for an engagement type shoot but I happen to have a bump. LOL Thanks for your feedback.

I think you just need to talk to your photographer. Personally I don’t show maternity photos on my website because it’s not something I’m interested in, but there are plenty of things I’d be interested in shooting that I may not have done yet or I don’t have a dedicated section on my website for. Your photographer if they don’t do maternity ought to be able to refer you to someone who does.
