@cml:  We sent ours out last month. Our wedding is in October, so we were right at the 6-month mark

From what I understand people usually send them like 6-8 months in advance, but if you have a secured date and people are asking for a date, I don’t see why you couldn’t send them now?

@cml:  I think the more notice that you can give people, the better. Maybe that is not the proper etiquette answer, but if I had to travel for a wedding I would want to know all the details ASAP.

@MrsPanda99:  Our wedding will be out of state and I think we’ll send them as soon as we have them printed, for that very reason: if it were me as a guest, I’d rather know ASAP.

i sent mine out exactly 6 months before.  but 6-12 months before is acceptable.

you can also tell people (i would limit to the people you really want to be there like family and close friends) the date if you are not quite ready to send out STDs

ASAP – if you have the venue booked, get those save the dates out the door.  For weddings that require travel, people need to sort out time off work (if needed) and what not…I know I plan my vacation schedule a year in advance so it would really throw me off if I got a save the date for an out of town wedding only 6 months prior to the event

Mine was in state and I mailed them six months in advance (only a few out of towners). Id do it asap, maybe 8 months out?

@badabing88:  Exactly. If any of your guests are anything like me (and I hope they are, because I am great), then they are planners. Sometimes I have 8 weekends in a row planned. I always like to know what I’m doing and I have to balance things with my work schedule and FI’s. We have a lot of family obligations too, so if I need to fit something into my calendar I need to know…or else it wouldn’t happen.

We’re sending ours by the first of June, about five months before the wedding. (We would have sent them a little earlier, maybe about a month sooner, but we just didn’t get around to it.)

@MrsPanda99:  +1

@cml:  OP, DH and I just received a Save the Date this week for an October wedding so I think you’re fine to send them out now.

As a guest, 4-8 months would be ideal. A year out, I’m just as likely to lose it or forget about it as keep it.

@jmarvellous:  This. Good point. I am a planner, but it needs to fit on my calendar. I don’t have my 2014 calendar yet and even I haven’t planned that far ahead. If I need to save a little piece of paper until I get my next year’s calendar, it is very likely I will lose it.

I got one 2 years in advance, which I thought was a little crazy. A year seems like long enough
