I've taken probiotics in the past to help counter-act the effects of antibiotics and they've always helped. I get them from Trader Joes. I'm not sure if they'll help with the flu, though. Probiotics help strengthen your immune system & can prevent the flu -- i don't know about stopping it after it starts.
As a nurse, probiotics are not for the flu. However, if you are having diarrhea, constipation, you know the wonderful wonders of the bowels, these can help with that by restoring the good bacteria flora your stomach lining needs. The only thing you can do for the flu, even though we are technically out of flu season, is rest, fluids and soft foods i.e toast, rice, bananas etc. Drink your fluids and sleep! I say again. Also try not to stress, it never helps!
I think if I'm understanding, you mean "stomach flu" or gastroenteritis... and in many cases I recommend probiotics for my patients who have depletion of their normal gut flora from diarrhea.
Regardless, Jessie is married now and hopefully feeling fit and wonderful!!!
@doctorgirl, lol! I am suffering from exhaustion and did not notice how old the post was! Lord! I guess she would be ok now, hopefully!
It was sweet of you to weigh in anyway ;) Someone will be able to benefit from your advice...
I would suggest Activa yougurt. Also I get Pearls probiotic pills that I take every night. I get them at the Vitamin Shoppe. I'm lactose intolerant and this really really helps :)
Thanks for the tips, ladies. When I posted this, I was so stressed with wedding drama and then had the stomach flu to boot! What a crazy week that was! Luckily, it's all behind me now and the wedding was wonderful. :)

So, with my wedding only a week away, my fiance and I both seem to have a stomach bug. He's been sick for the last day and I just started having some stomach cramping and running a low-grade fever. My mom suggested picking up some probiotic pills to try to minimize the effects of the flu.
Has anyone taken these before? Have you gotten good results? I figure at this point, if I have the flu, I can't get rid of it, but if the pills might help get rid of it faster/fight it off, then I might have to make a run to Whole Foods to grab some.
