@spicyshimmer: I’ve heard the same about pave but not that soon after getting it, they should last as long as you get the setting checked regularly to make sure none are coming loose.

Also, what part of the ring did it fall out from? I want diamonds around the band of my engagement ring however the jeweller advised me against getting them the whole way around because the bottom will knock/catch on things more so i’m getting 3/4.

If you don’t think the jeweller who made it did a good enough job take it somewhere else and get them to check all the diamonds, then take it back 1-2 times a year to have it checked ๐Ÿ™‚

@spicyshimmer: I have a micro pave e-ring with a 3/4 covered band. Mine are so tiny that my ring looks like it was rolled in diamond sugar. lol

I too asked about pave and my jeweler said as long as I came in every 6 months to have it tightened there should be no problems. She said it wasn’t a must but it would work in my favor. I know that may not be for everyone, but I honestly don’t mind. We live right down the street and go to have it cleaned about every month anyway. The tightening is free.

I would definitely take it back. At a month, it shouldn’t have happened but maybe a prong got knocked loose.

@Miss_E_xx: As someone that has a ring in diamonds that is 3/4 of the way around, I suggest them! When my fingers are open or closed all you see is diamonds. It still looks great. I will be getting an eternity band with diamonds all the way around but I won’t wear it all the time so it shouldn’t be an issue. I’m really glad my e-ring is 3/4 covered!

@Coral99: thanks for the endoresement! haha I’d wanted them all the way around but when he suggested 3/4 is better I figured no one will see underneath anyway!

And ditto on the eternity band, I actually want one as my wedding band to match the engagement ring band but with slightly bigger diamonds – i’m hoping that because they’ll be a bit bigger they’ll be less likely to fall out! and i’m happy to keep getting them tightened if it means I get my dream rings ๐Ÿ™‚

@spicyshimmer: No…not at all. Just taking it back to the store and having them repair it. Have you called to tell them? Unless it’s a chain store, I wouldn’t suggest getting it worked on by another jeweler. It could void your warranty or they could always place blame on the other store and you would have no proof. I know it will be a trip for you, but it’s worth it.

Also, you may want to check with your insurance company who insures the ring to see if they cover diamonds or just the ring as a total. Sometimes they might cover diamonds falling out and at least you would have that covered.

My friend has a thick, pave band on her e-ring, and this has happened to her ring numerous times. She always has the lost stones replaced, but she definitely doesn’t like the inconvenience of having to have her ring off of her finger and at the jeweler’s being repaired.

@Miss_E_xx: Meee too!! Mine will be bigger! I’m actually getting 3 wedding bands. LOL. I didn’t want to say that at first because I didn’t want it to sound hoggy but that’s how I know I won’t wear it all the time. I too think because they are larger I’ll notice them more?? Not sure if that theory is right but it sounds good to me! Hahah. And I’m the same way…I don’t mind tending to them. It’s what I want so I’m willing to have upkeep.

@spicyshimmer: A tiny one fell out of my ring about a month after I got it, but it was the day after it had gotten sized from a size 7 to a size 5. No other ones have fallen out since the one was fixed. And I am a nurse and wear my ring to work everyday. Mine is also 3/4 of the band, not full eternity.

I had a stone fall out of my ring less than 24 hours after getting it back from being sized (just like the person mentioned in the post before mine- sized from a 7 to a 5). But in my case is was a fluke as one of the prongs broke. I was so upset but the jeweler got it fixed the same day (no charge).

I took it to another jeweler to have sizing bead put on (I was dubious of the first one after losing the stone) and had them check the ring- they said everything is secure. But I worry. I swear I check the ring numerous times a day for loose stones. It’s only been a month since I’ve started wearing it, so I don’t know how long it’ll be before I can calm down about the whole thing. This wasn’t an official e-ring, but rather a modest 15-year upgrade. I think I’m going to get a gemstone for my 20-year upgrade (Hubs is already given me the okay) but I bet I still get a halo with a pave band despite the trouble. I just love the way they look. Oh- and you can bet I’m going in every six months (minimum) to have the ring checked. My jeweler can do it while I wait, so it’s no big deal.

@Coral99: I love the term “diamond sugar.” Sounds like the best kind of sugar (better than brown, white, powdered, etc.)!

I was speaking with my jeweler yesterday, and he said that if you have a ring sized more than about half a size, you compromise the integrity of the ring and the setting… basically the micropave stones that I want would fall out if I don’t get it in my size (custom at this store), because of my smaller fingers. I’m not sure if this is the case with your ring, but I’d have a look and make sure it wasn’t sized too many sizes down! If so, have them replace it with a ring that is closer to your size!
