I was in a wedding where the bridesmaids walked in to Canon in D and the music changed for the bride to a more upbeat tune (I don’t remember which one it was, but in the same vein as Trumpet Voluntary).  It was beautiful!  And organ music in a church/cathedral is always so impressive, I don’t think you need a horn by any means to make the song feel right!  Great choices 🙂

Trumpet tune and trumpet voluntary can both be played on the organ beautifully.

I say go for what you like! I personally asked my priest if I could walk into somewhere over the rainbow (on piano) and its a go!

Near the end of Canon in D it usually picks up the pace a bit and gets more “complicated” (for lack of a better way to describe it).  I’ve heard of organists timing it just right so there’s a very short pause and then the bride enters as the grand ending of the song starts.

Another option is to find out what stops your organ has.  Some organs have a “trumpet” stop, and i’ll be darned if it doesn’t sound like a trumpet when you pull out that stop!

Our Moms and Grandmoms are getting seated to Ave Maria (instrumental).

Our processional is Canon in D (a fav of mine) and since we have a very very small wedding party, I am coming down the isle to the fancy part at the end, as Jen discusses above.

Choose whichever makes you feel more thrilled about going down the aisle towards your future husband! Trumpet Voluntary is more exciting, and Canon in D is more peaceful. Which do you think you’ll want to feel more?
