I love my Henkels! But we did ask for and receive a Chef Choice electric knife sharpener, which is the best way to get back that sharp edge. Other than that I use my sharpening steel just before using the knives. This doesn't "sharpen" the blade, but it helps realign the edge in between sharpening.
One thing we received that I never in a million years have put on our registry: An electric wine opener. Hello! Who needs an electric wine opener? Well apparently I do as I am now in love with the thing :-) Who knew?
I LOVE my Keurig!
Calphalon Pots and Pans - love these - they are non stick and fantastic, and can go from stove to oven (though Im not sure what Id make that requires that lol)
Calphalon knives - so far so good, but we;ve only been using them for a few weeks
Chargers - so unnecessary, but I've used them several times for entertaining and people always comment on how nice they look!
DeLonghi Espresso Machine - LOVE LOVE LOVE! This thing is incredible, I have the one that brews 2 cups at once if you want it to (I mean, they all do, but this has a special holster for enough grounds to make 2)
KitchenAid Stand Mixer - Ummm. I mean its good, but I dont bake so I rarely use it. I love the meat grinder and pasta attachments.
We got a dutch oven & we love it. Surprisingly, we use it more often than we thought. So it got me thinking about all other le creuset products. See Peggy's post about her love for le creuset and other household items.
i registered for the le creuset dutch oven and i hope hope hope i get it!
Thanks for sharing, ladies!
Kelly I am glad SOMEONE loves the keurig... I'd hate to think there are millions going to waste, lol.
I don't get the Keurig thing either. And I drink a HUGE cup of coffee in the morning, I'd have to make 2-3 packet-thingy's to fill the soup cup with a handle I call a morning cup of coffee. LOL Plus, just my luck as soon as I buy the thing it'd go out of business or it would be updated "new & improved" and I'd be stuck with a machine that I can't buy refills for. :)
We haven't made our whole registry yet, but I will say that I'm not registering for cookware. I know nothing about cooking so, of course, I asked my mother. She mentioned a company called "Revere Ware" but I don't think it exists anymore, but after looking through Consumer Reports and other sites, found out that one of the best quality sets out there is from Costco. Whether you buy the non-stick or not. I think my Mom ran out & bought a set with a copper bottom.
I also can't wait to get the K-45 KitchenAid mixer. I bake a lot and I can't wait to have it. My mother uses it ALL the time and she's had the same one for about 30 years. My aunt swears there's no way she'd get through the holidays without it.
This is a bit off-topic (sorry cinema! I think this is a great thread!) but I would be careful about using an electric knife sharpener on your nice expensive knives and use the sharpening steel that comes with it instead. The reps for Henckel or Wusthoff will tell you to use the steel before you use your knives each time, but lets face it, none of us are going to remember to do that! Nice knives have a grain that if you rake it through an electric sharpener, the grain doesn't lie flat and then your knives won't last as long. The sharpening steel really isn't for "sharpening" your knife as much as it is for realigning those little bits of metal.
You should take your knives to a place that professionally "sharpens" knives maybe once a year, since they have equipment that will sharpen your knives without damaging them.
I do have to say I CAN'T wait to have the KitchenAid mixer. I know I would use it all the time, and I am so jealous of my mom's 30 year old one! Haha.... I actually asked for it for Christmas last year! Didn't get it though, mom said it was more of a wedding gift ;-)
@ otb me too! But my mom kept telling me to stop asking & said "when you get married you'll get one". LOL

I haven't gotten anything off my registry (hello, changing wedding date, hehe) but I am a total kitchen gadget geek, so I thought this might be helpful! I'm going to list a few of the really good and really bad things that may appear on your registry. And things i'm curious about: those measuring cups that are adjustable... let me know about those.
1. Set of 10 or 12 biscuit circle cutters... these are A-Maz-ing. I love them for everything, and while I don't use them daily, they are great to have!
2. Greenpans. I don't know if you've heard of these, but supposedly you don't have to use oil or anything to prevent sticking. They're popular at places like Target, Sears, etc... everything they say has been LIES. Stay away from these pieces of crap because they scratch, chip and constantly need replacing (after about 4 months). Only good thing about them? Nice, heavy lids... oh, and I think they can go from stove to oven. Maybe.
3. Henckels knives. I am of mixed opinion on these. FI and I bought a couple about two years ago and they were the good quality ones. They are very nice, but it seems like they need sharpening constantly. I don't plan on going with these for the rest of my life, but they're ok for now.
4. a stick blender. Mine was like $16 from Target and when making guacamole, soups, butter or whipped cream, these are genius! If you're registering at a place that has some cheap ones, go for one. You won't regret it.
5. The Keurig. Ugh, this seems like a registry staple to some people, and I don't understand why! The k-cups all don't seem that great to me (sometimes stale) and the one that you can put your own coffee into is very hard to clean. My dad took it to work after it was passed around to everyone (and no one wanted it) and that seems to be the only place it's liked, since everyone can have a different type of warm coffee whenever rather than old coffee.
And that's my take on those! Share yours, please!
