For a while now, I’ve been wondering if SO is just dragging his feet or if he just doesn’t want to get married (though he has said in the past that he did). It’s been bothering me and building up for a while so I sat down and wrote him a letter expressing my concerns (not wanting to renew our lease if we’re not engaged, worries about him not really wanting to get married, etc.).
I had planned to read the letter to him but when I mentioned that I wanted to have a talk when I got home, he asked if he could just read it now and we could talk about it when I get home. So I emailed it to him.
As a result, he has promised that he won’t keep me waiting much longer. He asked to see my list of engagement rings and maybe go ring shopping in the fall. He also said that it will not be a problem to be engaged before we renew our lease (6 months!)
I am extremely relieved and thrilled! When in doubt, talk to him!

I’m dying to know what the letter said.

It basically told him that I really want to marry him and that I don’t want to resign our lease unless we’re engaged. He has a tendency to get comfortable and then doesn’t like things to change, which I told him bothered me and he agreed with it. I also told him that I don’t want to be “the cow who gives the milk for free” anymore and so if we aren’t engaged by March, I’m moving out and he can decide if he wants to marry me while living seperately again. I also brought up a few issues about things he has suggested wanting in the past that I wasn’t ok with (he wanted to wait a full year from now to get engaged, he wanted to pick out my ring with no input from me). I just laid everything that I was thinking out for him.
I am very happy to say that he agreed with me on almost all counts, promised not to make me wait much longer, and said I can pick out my ring but he doesn’t want me there when he buys it. He’s all about the surprise factor.

@Black-Eyed-Susan: That is so awesome that your inquiry was so well received! I agree that if in doubt…ask! Happy ring shopping : )
