I love that you started this thread! I feel like promise rings get a little bit snubbed sometimes!

These look beautiful - I was given a promise ring in my last long term relatonship, let's just say didn't ask for one this time round as it was an unfulfilled promise - so I didn't have much faith in them after that :(
Hopefully with my e-ring nearly paid off by my SO, I shouldn't think I will be getting one.
My promise ring aka my birthday present that I got in February. I would have been happy with this as an engagement ring.
How pretty ladies! Mine is pretty simple, but I love it so much :) I wear it on my right hand now since I'm engaged but when I'm not able to wear my e-ring, I'll switch it over to my left hand!

Mine's a simple band that I wear on my right hand--channel set diamonds and sapphires. I've had it for 2.5 years now--can't wait for my e-ring to get here :)
@teacherandageek: I LOVE that ring. I actually really wanted something like that as an engagement ring, but FI wanted to do something more traditional.
This is my "promise ring." SO bought it for my when we were in Mexico in June. He was so upset that he wasn't able to propose on our trip - after explaining to him for the billionth time that I did not need a big, expensive diamond we went to the jewlery shop in the resort. Naturally, since I wear a size 8, we couldn't find anything that he would consider to be an acceptable engagement ring that actually fit. So I found this beautiful filagree Mexican silver ring and SO bought it. I'd wear it on my left ring finger, but it looks too similar to a wedding band, and I didn't want to constantly be barraged with those questions. I wear it on the middle finger of my left hand, so it's as close to my "engagement finger" as possible.
Edit: Holy huge picture!!!!! I tried to resize it, but obviously it didn't work!

This was mine - now my right hand ring. It's stainless steel and who knows what the "stone" is made of, lol. We both wanted for me to have a ring but definitely couldn't afford a "real" one at the time. I remember it was about 15 dollars at a half price sale at one of those little jewelry kiosks in the mall!

Thanks! Its actually adjustable so it doesn't quite close in the back - I'll be getting a different wedding band. Figured I would move it over to my right hand once I get "the" ring.
@CarolinaCola: He doesn't believe in them. His theory is that if he says that he wants to marry me then that should be enough and that he doesn't want to take away from the actual ring by giving more meaning to a promise ring. I get what his saying, and it's kind of cute, but sometimes I think it would have been nice to get through the hard waiting times to have one. After all - it has been over 7 1/2 years that we have been together :-)

I'm now engaged (It's only been a few weeks!) But I still want to show some love to what I called "My 'lil linty" That was my name for her... as in the diamond was so small it looked like a piece of lint fuzz! haha She's retired now though.

Mine is a simple 2mm white gold band that I received in the summer! Hoping for an upgrade sometime early next year! *crosses fingers*

So here's my promise ring story...
My FI gave me a promise ring, I suppose to appease me during my impatience. Initially I wore it with pride. However, once I realized that it was really only meant as a way to get me to shut up, I gave it back to him and told him that I would only wear it if/when he was actually ready to marry me. (I didn't really want a diamond engagement ring so it was kind of perfect--it's a claddagh ring).
Fast forward a year and he proposed on his own, so now I wear my beautiful promise ring as my engagement ring.
