I had two, sold one and threw the other one away. They were both from ex boyfriends of mine. My SO was going to get me one about a year ago, then we broke up, and he told me about it after our breakup. I didn’t want one at that point though because I told him we were adults now and if he was going to get me a ring that symbolized our commitment, I’d rather it be an engagement ring at this point.

I got one about 10 years ago from an ex-boyfriend.  It’s floating around the jewelry box somewhere now.

@Seashells7:  A promise ring is basically a pre-engagement ring… kinda means I love you and want to be with you but we are not ready to be engaged yet.. or simply not in a situation where we can get married right now but someday .. 🙂 Did I explain that ok bees ?

@maudemaisha:  Yup. Sounds about right. Like, for example, if you and your SO have agreed not to get engaged until you finish college (but know that you are going to get engaged to each other), he might give you a promise ring when you make that agreement. Some people find them pointless, but I think they’re really sweet.

I had one.

There’s a different ring on that finger now, but I adore my promise ring.

Mine is actually a famliy heirloom that my grandmother gave to me. I started wearing it to give my SO peace of mind during our 4 years of LDR (it keeps other guys from hitting on me which makes him feel better).

Yup. SO gave this to me a few months ago as a promise ring/place holder ring. 2ct white sapphire in silver.

I have one …. but I have not work it since Christmas. I was wearing it on my ring finger, which from my studies seemed the appropriate place for a pre-engagement style ring. Two years later and my SO makes a big fuss about me wearing it on that hand and insisting that it was the wrong finger

-.-; if anyone would be nice enough to clear it up that would be great as I would love to get back to wearing it without getting it resized yet again.

I got one about 3 years into our relationship and wore it for about 2. Stopped wearing it in nursing school due to rules and kind of out of resentment over the fact that we had been together for years and no engagement ring. Bitchy, I know. Now I have an e-ring 7 years after the start of it all. Yay!

@Nurse_Bee:  lol I like your sass.

This is my promise ring. A pretty blue topaz stone with a dainty diamond halo. I’m engaged now so my finger is adorned by my e ring, but sometimes I wear this on my right hand. It’s a bit too big on me and it twists around my finger so I don’t wear it too much anymore, but the sentiment behind it is still invaluable to me.

I had always wanted one in high school because every girl wanted their bfs to give them promise rings. My high school BF gave me one and he is still my friend (we have been friends for almost 20 years and only dated for 1.3 years in HS…i think that that’s cool/ok/acceptable). So in the end it was a nice promise ring. he promised he would always be there for me..and he has, but now it is in a brother/sister type way. So I understand the value of them.

But now that I am a full fledged adult I would not find a promise ring acceptable for me at this point in my life.
