Sigh... oh yeah virginia there is a santa claus...and this is my inspiration... i'm not small by any means, would look funny if i was, my head is too big... however i am voluptous and sexy... now i need to tone up however, i will be rocking a trumpet

oh no baby, i'm a 14/16 but i hope to be a 12/14 whenever i try on dresses... i carry a lot of water weight right now... i have given up being tiny and petite and actually enjoy my boobies, booty and thighs... in the words of shania... in a mermaid i feel like a woman!
I love JH in that black and white strapless. Then again, she's pretty much always super fashionable. I don't think she knows how to dress herself poorly. ;)
@crebre ya im like a 12, 14 depends on what im tryin on.. yea i just went through a miscarriage in august so i gained some weight and I still have a poochie belly.. not really wantin to try on any dress right now.. but i have some time.. i kno how you feel about being bloated water weight ehhh its not fun but my FI loves the boobies and booty lol
Who were the doubters?
Skinny girls look silly in a mermaid or trumpet dres, IMO. It is made for the ladies with curves.
The girl in the first pic looks stunning in her dress. Glad to see that everyone is not a size 0. Although interestingly, the fashion experts and magazines all say that those sizes should never wear mermaid style dresses under any circumstances since they put all the focus on the bust and hips. However in that dress, I honestly didn't see that that was an issue at all.
@ember: the first dress is jennifer hudson, i think she was from the 2nd american idol, she was like number 7 voted off and won an oscar for her role in dream girls... and i cannot believe that the industry doesn't want those with curves to flaunt them... actually on some of the magazines that i saw they considered jennifer hudson chunky, really?!
@spaniel: the black and white one was definitely one of my all time favorite looks!! it was so clean and polished omg!
@mal: sorry to hear about your miscarriage ((HUGS)) i still have a poochie belly and my son is 8. i was on a bc that caused a lot of problems for me.
@monita: EVERYONE doubts it... especially sales people, they tend to push larger framed women towards the bigger less fabulous dresses... let's just say whenever it's my turn i will tell them what i want. and it ain't an a-line :D
Beyonce and Jennifer look beautiful, sexy, and classy...you go Diva! Im a size 14/16 so I know! :) I know!
Yay I love this post. I am wearing a trumpet gown also. They did wonders for that hourglass shape we all want to accentuate. Here is a pic of my gown. (Please ignore the fact that the dress is held up in front of me because it was a bridal size 4 or 6. Not meant for my size 12/14 body.
I am a curvy girl too - losing weight but still a size 18 in pants, a XL-L on top. While I am not going to get all sexy with the trumpet gown, I am certainly going to try everything under the sun on when I am dress shopping. Ultimately I want the romantic empire waist just because it suits my personality more. Big girls rock and my FI LOVES my curves - I am an hourglass shape too despite my size :)
I have the say that Jennifer Hudson looks amazing in that red dress!
JHud does look great in that dress. I think no matter your size, dresses are about fit and proportion (thank you, Tim Gunn) and anytime you're making someone's waist look that tiny, you're doing a good thing.
@ crebre80, that last dress is really pretty. Is that Crystal Renn?
I went dress shopping and wasn't sure how a trumpet would look on me I am very bottom heavy size 10 !!! But it actually made me look slimmer..... Power to the curvy girls!!!!
In all honesty, I think trumpet gowns look best on women with curves. I have the Beyonce curves going on over here. My mom teases me daily about my Beyonce booty! She is always saying, "uh oh uh oh!" LOL!!! But, I have to say, my curves caught Mister's attention. LOL!!! I used to have issues with my curves because most of my life I was slim and then came my third baby. The curves set in. LOL!!! I now appreciate them and embrace them. And as Ms.Pomegrnate said... CURVY GIRLS LOOK GREAT IN THE TRUMPET! It was made for us. That is why you often see Beyonce rocking a trumpet gown. Now... I don't have the 19 inch waist of Bey's... I'm more like a 26 incher. LOL!!! But I am a brick house! 36-27-36. I'd like to get that waist down to a 24 though. LOL!!!
I love this thread! J-Hudz looks great, and Beyonce's body look killer as always. Please, curvy girls, don't hide your voluptuous bodies!!
I'm a 10-12 street (depending on what time of the month it is - curse you, PMS bloat) and I've got the hips and booty and I'm going with a mermaid. I agree that mermaid/trumpet look way better on curvy girls. What's the point in wearing something that is supposed to accentuate your curves if you're a size negative 4 and you have no curves?
I'm a 14 now but was a 10/12 at the wedding and am a DD...PM me if you want to see some of my picks in my trumpet dress!
great thread! and i totally agree. i'm a street size 8-12, depending on the brand, and some of the bridal salons i went to wouldn't let me try on mermaid gowns (cough cough sign of store i will not buy from!) but both of the 2 dresses i'm seriously considering are both modified mermaids, and they look better on me than the non-curvy models (if i do say so myself
)! i have big boobs, so all the a-line's just made me look boxy
Well, I might be a little Irish-Italian girl but according to my office-mate (he's a gay black man) who constantly reminds me that I'm "built like a sista" (his words, not mine) so you can count me in too. I'm a 10-12, which means I'll be a 14 when the holidays are over (hoping to get down to a 8-10 for the wedding) and I never thought I'd be able to pull off a trumpet or a mermaid. I tried on a trumpet dress and it looks so amazing on that I'm having a hard time picking between that or an A-line. I put the trumpet on & my mom's reaction was "Woah! That dress makes you look like a size 4!" - so yeah, it's in the final 2.
I have absolutely no hips. And no butt. It's so sad.
@Dancy905 - and if your co-worker told you were built like a "sista"; you certainly must be. LOL!!! Men just don't lie about that. Gay or not... you got his attention. LOL!!!
I tried on a mermaid/trumpet dress and loved it. I'm not skinny at all, not sure what I would describe myself as but, I wear an 8 dress. I loved how it huged at the hips, I like the overall shape of it against my body:
@ hisswallow: Thank you so much! I didn't buy it, I may do so though. I'm looking for something a little more softer lace though, still mermaid though.
@Leafy, I'm an 8 as well, so I can get some idea of what I'll look like in the trumpet gown. You look awesome Miss! I'm busty though (36D), so not sure if I'll be spilling out of a strapeless gown or not. Any ideas Hive? Oh yea, Leafy, I loooove the lace details. I want a lace gown as well. Never thought about the trumpet style, but really liking the look. Thanks for the "real" visual.
Seconded, Leafy, that dress is beautiful on you. Want to see a gorgeous woman with curves? Watch the AMC show Mad Men, the character Joan played by Christina Hendricks. Beautiful, hippy, busty, and I LOVE that she's the sex symbol on that show! Bring back the Marilyn Monroe and Botticelli curves! I've actually unbelievably started losing weight the past couple months, my 16s are falling off me, literally. I'd like to get down to a 12, but I do love my curves, and so does my SO. Really, isn't that all that matters? Ladies, don't ever let anyone, or any magazine, or any snarky radio or TV host, tell you you're not beautiful if you're bigger than a size 2. Your health is the only thing that's important.
Oy, I guess I can post a picture of her. (Finally figured it out :)
I always thought curvy girls were the best for mermaid/trumpet dresses. I'm curvy and I wore a size 12 mermaid dress. I should have ordered a size 14 though because that 12 was so small!
LOL @ 91011Bridethanks! BTW - the trumpet I was talking about had lace on the top too so def. look into it, not only did I feel totally covered but it also took care of those little floppy bits by my underarms & I'm a 36C.
JillianBean I'm straight & all but you're right - she is so hot! Didn't she just get married also? Now I'm gonna have to look up her wedding dress too. LOL
@Dancy905, she did just get married, haven't seen any pictures of her wedding though. If you find something, let me know. :)
I am so glad that I am not the only one to embrace my curves! My sister and mom are both about 5"10 and my mom up until recent years was a size 4 my sister is a size 00 and I have always been above a size 10. Talk about a body complex... But I have grown to love my body and am excited to become engaged and dress shop and pist pix of my experience!!
I'm a size 14 and I love my mermaid style gown! And I love that Kleinfelds had samples that I could fit into! Here's a picture of me in my lazaro gown. I love how tiny my waist looks!
