Oh, gosh, what a great post. I am a street size 14/16, and I bought a sample size 14 Maggie Sottero (LOVE those corsets, LOL!). It's not a trumpet, but a "slim A-line" and on me, it almost looked like a trumpet. :) In fact, that's exactly what I liked about it - the way it accentuated my shape and flared out at the bottom.
Well, after I bought the dress, I looked at it on the Maggie Sottero website and, OMG, it doesn't even look like the same dress! See for yourself... here's the dress on the model:

And here's the dress on me! (A little tight when I bought it three months ago, but I've lost almost 10 pounds and my first fitting is next Friday, so I think I'll be okay...)

I needed to see this. I have some junk in the trunk and some meat on my thighs and was so afraid of trumpet and mermaid styles...I am now OK to at least try them on. But I'll want to sit in it, so it can't be too tight. They aren't too tight are they?
I LOVE this post! I got a fit 'n flare/trumpet dress and I LOVE it! It should fit better closer to our wedding next July (Have to have the but taken in and lose a little weight in my thighs)...
I <3 this thread! I, too, am 5"8, size 8-10 street and very curvy (big boobs/big hips). My mom didn't like the idea of a mermaid at first, but I found the perfect dress to convince her. Totally meant for curvy girls like us! Wish I had pics to share!
@notyourtypical: love it!!!
@inthemedia: I tried on modified a lines that were looser in the thigh but I didn't hv probs sitting.
I totally agree ladies! I am a slim girl between a 6/8 (I've had my ups and downs with weight and I'm in the middle right now), but I have pretty big hips at 39", giving me a 10"+ difference in my waist to hip measurements!
It probably has a lot to do with my Hawaiian genetics (my Caucasian mother is a bean pole though!), having such hips and all. However, I knew from the get go that I was only going to rock a mermaid dress. I tried on a few styles and honestly the mermaid was the most flattering!
You Ladies look amazing in your dresses! I almost wish I had tried one on now just to see. Mine is a slim A-line, and I love it, but I am really loving these trumpets/mermaids. I was afraid I couldn't pull it off, but now I see that I probably could have. Oh well. I love seeing all of you in them though!
I wish I could wear wedding dresses every day! ha! They look amazing on girls with curves!!! I never felt so beautiful in my life as when i was wearing my dress! That is why I wore it from 12;00 Pm sat....til 2:00AM Sunday! I warned my now husband that he could come home from work & just find me lounging around in it! :)
