I agree. I had to re-do our RSVP cards because I put the complete wrong date. Not even the month was right and 3 people read over them!
I agree! After we wrote our directions, we got in the car and my fiance drove the route following ONLY our directions. We had missed a crucial turn!
I learned this from my fiance: Look at the words upside-down. Your brain gets so used to just scanning the text when it's oriented in the normal direction, so you glaze over the same errors over and over again. But if you force yourself to read it while it's upside-down, you notice things that you otherwise would have missed. It's a pain, but definitely effective.
I totally agree! Everything that we have printed we've emailed to our friends/families for proofreading. I sent out our programs... and only 2 of 15 people picked up that we had an extra R in Corinthians! The more that proof read it the better!
Our invitations said "Nineteeth", not "Ninetenth"! We didn't notice until we sent them out, and I hope no one else did! But yes, proofread proofread!
My friend's invitation said the reception was at the Wydham Hotel, not the Wyndham Hotel. I chose not to point it out to her, b/c at that point they invitations had all gone out.
I'm usually too polite to say anything but being an English teacher it is hard to avoid seeing spelling and punctuation errors (especially misplaced apostrophes).

Stupid mistake #3: program margins cut off two letters of several people's names
Stupid mistake #4: program says "left" when I mean "right" in directions to reception.
Estimated cost of correcting these mistakes: $150.
Estimated stress involved: infinite.
PROOFREAD! ASK AT LEAST 5 PEOPLE TO PROOFREAD WITH YOU! PROOFREAD BEFORE YOU PRINT HUNDREDS OF COPIES OF SOMETHING! PROOFREAD EVEN THINGS THAT YOU THINK YOU CAN JUST GLANCE AT AND SAY IT'S FINE! CAREFULLY THINK THROUGH EVERY INCH OF EVERYTHING YOU PRINT! AND THEN PROOFREAD AGAIN!
