Go ahead and cash it now, if it's dated accordingly. There's nothing more annoying than forgetting about an outstanding check and having it cashed when you're not expecting it. Just be sure to put the Thank You in the mail promptly so they'll receive it soon!

My fiance and are I getting married in fewer than 3 weeks (!!!!) and recently received a check in the mail as a wedding gift. I know that we're allowed to open our gifts early and pre-write the thank you card (to be sent post-wedding), but I'm not sure how the etiquette works when the gift is a check. Do we have to wait until after the wedding to deposit the check?
