So after being engaged for 8 months now..I’ve realized that sometimes when I am talking about my fiance I forget and still call him my boyfriend. I think it is probably because we dated for 11 months before getting engaged and I got really used to it. But if I call him my fiance I have 2 friends that always get annoyed and say I just like to brag by over using that when in reality I hardly ever even remember to do it and they say I should just call him my boyfriend. I am engaged and I like being able to say fiance instead of my boyfriend, I think that’s acceptable and I don’t care about what people say about it.How do you engaged bees feel? Do you always call him FI? Or just say his name? Do any of you ever call him your boyfriend still? Just looking to see how other people feel about it!

SoonToBeeMartinez: I think part of the fun of being engaged is being “upgraded” from a girlfriend to a fiancée. I called him by his “proper title” when I introduced him to people but around friends I’d usually just use his name. Unless they didn’t remember his name and gave me a funny look, at which point I’d proudly say “my fiancé”.

I call my fiancé by his name if I’m in a situation where people know his name and who he is. I use fiancé if I’m referring to him in other situations. He was “my boyfriend” for five years and Ill be damned if anyone makes me feel bad for using the term fiancé. You use whatever terminology you want.

SoonToBeeMartinez: “fiance” is certainly the proper term, but I agree with your friends that is sounds sort of snobby. (There’s a Seinfeld clip on this which someone will probably post). I mostly avoided the problem by just using his name.

Thank you all! When I am around family/close friends I do just use his name. But if I’m talking to someone else like an acquaintance or someone I haven’t spoken to in a while I believe I will use the word fiance because after all we’re only engaged for a short period of time compared to what he will be my husband for and I like people knowing how excited I am about being his soon to be bride! Thanks for the input!
