I'm engaged now, but I thought I tell the hive about how I almost ruined the proposal not nce, but twice. My FI proposed on our 1 year anniv and had been talking about getting married for at least 6 months non stop. He kept joking about letting me know if he was going to keep me or not by 2013. I knew that we were going to get engaged sometime, but I was thinking closer to Christmastime, not our 1 year anniv. (in July)

Anyways, the week before we went down to the the beach with his family. He alsready told me that he wouldn't be taking an e-ring in his swim trunks. (Like I said he talked about getting engaged & the future just about everyday) So on the last night we went for a walk on the beach. We were talking about our relationship & holding hands when he just stopped & stood there. Onset awkward silence. This is how the convo went:

me and my big mouth- "So are you going to propose to me now?"

Him- "No, I told you I wasn't bringing a ring down to the beach.

Me- "Hmm, this is a wasted walk on the beach, let's just go back to the room."

We kept walking and he covered so well. He proposed the next evening on our anniversary. He had it all planned months in advance. Still, I felt bad for my somewhat twisted sense of humor.

Awe... that sounds like something that I will do. At least you are engaged now so it was not a fail. Congrats!

I bet this happens more than we think.  The girl ruins the moment and the guy is left with no choice but to put it off.  Good news is, you got engaged.  Congrats.

A friend of mine cancelled meeting her now-husband on the day he was going to propose because she was busy with work. He had a whole day planned of one activity leading in to the next and so on, culminating in a proposal. He was pretty bummed! (They, obviously, did eventually get engaged, but he planned something a lot more low-key)

He had planned on proposing the next night, so I didn't delay it. I still don't know how he kept a strait face though. For the actual proposal he took me to the drive in theater where we had our first date. When it got dark the movie started and there were fireworks going off for the 4h of July. He kept talking to me and trying to get me to watc the fireworks & I told him that I couldn't listen to him, watch the fireworks, and the movie at the same time. That's before I realized what he was trying to do. It all worked out and actually fits us well.
