The other day my Mr. and I had a wonderful dinner, looked into each other’s eyes, said romantic and loving things, and held hands and kissed like fools do. He admitted to talking with my parents about marrying me and hinted that he wanted to ask me then, but wanted to do it under the full moon (like our first date) and was inhibited by the rainstorm. He looked like he was trying to figure out a backup plan. I was excited and nervous and so in love.
We left the restaurant and headed home where there was more gazing, smooching, sweet words and, um, no proposal.
Apparently he didn’t want to ask in public (lack of privacy) or at home, because he thought there were too many bad memories (for me) with my ex there. Um, yeah. Okay. I was more than a little disappointed. I fully admit that I pouted a little and we quickly went to bed.
The next day I had lunch with my step-dad. He asked if there were any announcements. I said, “My boyfriend is an idiot.” He laughed so hard he snorted. I told him if my boyfriend wasn’t lighting candles and playing soft music when I got home, I was going to throw one of my cats at him!*
In the afternoon my Mr. and I talked a little about what happened the night before. I explained why I was disappointed and expressed my concern that he was not ready. He explained that he didn’t think I wanted to go out in the rain and didn’t want to do it at home. We call that form over substance. I explained that I don’t care how or where he asks me, I just want to be with him.
Last night we had leftovers from the failed proposal dinner, lit candles, played soft music, and had a bottle of wine. And a proposal!
I was not surprised. It was not flashy. We shared loving words. And it was absolutely perfect.
* No animals were harmed in this proposal story.

Aww, what a sweet story! I think sometimes guys put WAY too much pressure on themselves to make it “perfect” when we don’t really care — we just want them to ask. So glad it all worked out for you both. Congrats!

Aw, that’s a great story. And that’s so sweet that your FH wanted so badly for everything to be perfect. The poor guy must’ve been cursing the rain that night!

Thank you! I’ll work on the pics. Right now I’m resisting waking up my FI (!!) to get started on some stuff. We were talking about an April wedding and that means we need to get MOVING on locations and I need to find a dress.

@ms.moonlight: Tell him to get up. I know you are excited, I am really happy for you. April will be here before you know it.
