@gpsp2B:  i can’t work it out, is it one of the cheeses they warn us to avoid when pregnant? or its a complete suprise? i mean it does have a rind but no idea if its mold ripened. and doesn’t look super soft?

@gpsp2B:  thanks for sharing this! So, I thought pasturizing the cheese prevented the risk of listeria? I checked the nutritional facts and it is definitely pasteurized. the cheese looks delicious and totally like something I would pick up at the market, so yes this is a little scary!!!

@cmbr:  oh makes sense. even though its pasteurised its a ripened soft cheese (i think) – so mold and soft(?)

http://www.whichtable.com/art_pregnancy.asp#h_89029

“In order to avoid the risk of listeriosis pregnant women are advised to avoid eating ripened soft cheeses of the Brie, Camembert and blue-veined types, whether pasteurised or unpasteurised.

This is because ripened soft cheeses are less acidic and contain more moisture than hard cheeses and are therefore more inclined to allow growth of undesirable bacteria such as Listeria, which may harm your unborn child.””

Thanks for the heads up. We live in the Midwet too. DH is a cheese fanatic so we bought 5 different kinds of cheese yesterday. While this one wasn’t on the list, I’ll keep an eye out!

Thanks for sharing but not for further scaring me! lol.  I just ordered lunch – was superrrrrr excited for it, got back to my office and realized it was covered in FETA!  I scraped it off but was too hungry not to eat it, so now I’m sitting here waiting to develop symptoms of listeria.  Totally ruined my excitement for that lunch.

Pregnancy can be such a downer sometimes!

@gpsp2B:  no worries, I’m only kidding!  I was telling DH yesterday that they need to just make a list of what pregnant people CAN eat/use/do/etc. It would be MUCH easier that way becaues there’d only be like 10 things on it.
