Hi all, I haven’t been on the bee in awhile but wanted to write about something I thought important to share.
After my wedding last year I reviewed all my wedding vendors online. For the most part, my vendors were fantastic and I gave them great reviews. However, I purchased my bridesmaids gifts from Plum Pretty Sugar and was not happy with the experience and product at all. I was honest in my review but not mean or harsh. When I posted the review last year there were several other reviews that basically said the same thing I had said so I know my experience was not an isolated incident. I never heard from Plum Pretty Sugar to try to remedy the situation or make it up to me.
Flash forward more than a year and I received an email from wedding wire saying my review had been disputed by Plum Pretty Sugar. Wedding wire’s policy is to remove the review until the reviewer can provide evidence of a contract with the vendor. I submitted my credit card statement as proof of payment and am waiting for them to repost my review.
However, now I have noticed that all the other less than favorable reviews of Plum Pretty Sugar that were there last year have been removed. Instead they have more than 80 reviews, all 4 or 5 stars from reviewers that that is the only review they have posted.
It really disappoints me that they would go through such lengths to be so dishonest about their business. If they had reached out to me to rectify the situation or even apologize for the poor service I would have been happy. All of this has really left a bad taste in my mouth.
I just thought I would share my experience with anyone out there using online reviews to help them choose their vendors. I would not have know this kind of thing goes on when I was planning my wedding. If you see lots of reviews of a vendor and that is the only review the reviewer is posted, you might want to be suspicious.

@littlebear2171: I had a similar issue with a Yelp review (not of a wedding vendor, but of a cleaning service) and they flagged it as fake and it was removed despite being entirely true. Now they only have great reviews despite a horrific situation. Made me lose my faith in the accuracy of such reviews :-/

I’ve heard before that the reviews on WeddingWire can be removed by the business, so that doesn’t surprise me. It’s crap though, what’s the point of allowing people to rate and comment on businesses, where only the good comments are actually posted?

It’s a huge problem with a lot of review sites, especially Yelp. Vendors can pay to remove poor reviews.

@littlebear2171: what was your experience with plum pretty sugar? im curious since I was considering ordering from them

@littlebear2171: That’s terrible 🙁 You can’t take up a dispute with the website itself? I would fight for my review, imagine how many brides are being sucked in by those good reviews!
I don’t use online reviews for vendors because none of them are online and no one “reviews” around here, but I would be horrified if they were just hiding their terrible comments!
Makes me think of the “testimonials” pages on websites, I never bother to look because they’re all fake of full of crap!

@mrsl2014: the funny thing is my experience wasn’t “horrible” and in my review I said the good with the bad. my wedding was in june but I purchased the robes in January- they charged my credit card but gave no mention of an estimated delivery date. After a month went by and I still had not received I contacted them and was told they ship in time for the wedding date (so the first week of June). I thought that unacceptable as that left no time to fix any issues plus who needs 5+ months to fulfill an order? This went back and forth with them finally promising to deliver by mid-May. May 15th came and went so I emailed again and miraculously the robes shipped that day. I just have no idea why ordered a couple robes had to be so frustrating. Overall, the robes are pretty poor quality. They are beautiful but flimsy, especially for the price paid.
I just wanted to get the word out to those unaware. When I was planning my wedding I relied heavily on online reviews and had no clue this goes on. Just be wary- if you see a lot of reviews but that reviewer has only submitted one review I highly doubt it is legitimate.
